Hello everyone. I have an 01 mitsubishi galant that im doing a remote start. I have everything connected. I have the IB-UMIT for the bypass. Well, everything is connected but I cant get the car to remote start. I have 2 keys for programming and I also broke the key sense wire only when remote start. If I R/S and insert the key before the car cranks, it will start fine. But it will not start without the key. You guys have any ideas on what to do? Any ideas will help. Thanks

You need to make sure that the bypass was programed the right way. It sounds like you have all the ING, ACC, and Start wires correct but with out the bypass working the car wont crank. Make sure the bypass is hooked up the right way and try to program it agin.

Recheck your programming procedures for the bypass module.  I have used the PATS-MIT3 on the 06 galant which as the same procedures and worked flawless.  FIRST,  connect your ground while running wire to the ground while running input wire of the bypass.  Next, connect the power wire to 12v constatn.  THEN,  you must ground your "wait to start wire" from the remote start system.  Now Follow this to the last word: What you need to do first is put the key sense back together and leave it alone.  Now, insert the first key in the cylinder and leave on "run" or 5 seconds and remove.  Second, insert key 2 and leave it on the "run" position for 7 seconds and remove key(SECURITY LIGHT WILL KEEP ON FLASHING).  Now with harness of module unplugged you position the bypass module next to the cylinder.  Remote start the car and the  will not crank the car but keep the lights inside on.  The security light on the car will now turn solid for 3 seconds and turn off.  Press on the brake.  Next step is to remove the "wait to start wire' from ground and connect the module to the harness. The last step is to put the other plug of the harness and make three loops  around the key cylinder.  Have your hands on the key cylinder having the wires on firmly.  Remote start the car and it should work now.

What is being used to trigger the bypass?

Could you explain "broke the key sence wire only when remote started" And why?

on the directechs sheet it says "When doing remote start on vehicles with factory alarm, must also interrupt the blue/red (-) key sense wire at the steering column using the status output wire to bypass the factory starter kill."

im installing a crimestopper RS1505DP. im using the GWR wire to trigger the bypass.

What they mean is that you connect A GWR to the key sence wire. not cut it you need to show the car a ground on this wire. at least thats the way I read it, you also need to tap in to the red FDA in the drivers kick. DEI also says that you need a 556uw a universal bypass that needs one of the keys in it at all times. I havent seen a IB-UMIT so I dont know how it works. but if you are trying to program it with the keysence wire and that wire is cut it wont program.

You will need to use the GWR on the key sence (put it back togetherposted_image)  AND the trigger for the bypass. Isolate with diodes.

If it didn't work the way I explained then maybe you should verify if what I mentioned in the steps gave you feedback.

Did the security light start blinking when taking out the second key?

Did it go solid when you tried the remote start with the "wait to start" wire grounded and the module next to the key cylinder?

Also, have you used that module on another car because these modules can only be programmed once.  If you received it open then you should try another one.  Lastly, try programming it with the key sense connected.  If all else fails then you may need a Mitsubishi Scan tool because the 2000 Galants can only be programmed with the scan tool.  It could be possible that the vehicle may have been manufactured during that time too.

No, the original poster is correct. The keysense wire rests at ground with no key inserted, when a key is inserted it goes to an open circuit. GWR to 86, 85 to constant +12v, cut keysense wire - one side to 30, the other side to 87a.

How about that.......posted_image Thats what I get for NOT looking the vehicle up myself....!

I'm old and my brain is not functioning properly. (sad)posted_image

KEY SENSE Blue/red                                     Ignition switch harness -

Just wondering..... Astro, and Wiremagic show this same thing? Are they both wrong is the way they have printed their info?

When Astro has one that goes "open" thats the way the show it..... "open" NOT ground? I believe you, cause I don't have a car in fornt of me.

I am simply telling you what is in print, in front of me.

Its been a couple years, but I remember Mitsubishi's keysense going to an open circuit when a key is inserted. Why they do it that way...I have no idea. Either way, it should be metered to see the correct answer.

Thats why I advise to have that wire completely connected for the bypass to be programmed.  After it has been progammed then you setup the relay for the keysense

Well, thanks for all the info. I came to find out that the car was manufactured in september of 2000. Though its labeled as an 01 model. So I needed to get the third key after all. I got it and used the universal transponder bypass and it worked right away. Thanks again for all the info.

So I was rightposted_image.  It could work but you have to use a Mitsubishi Scan Tool.  But you alredy are using a 556u so its not worth the hassle.
