OK, I just bought my wife a 2007 Uplander 1LT with just the passenger side power sliding door. I would like to add the remote start function, but wasn't sure what all it took to accomplish this. Is this something that is already installed in the vehicle and just needs a part added/the right remote to make it work, or is it something that actually needs to be installed. I ask b/c I have past experiance with an 04 Trrailblazer cruise control where the dealer wanted over $2000 to install when all I needed was a $90 part that I installed myself (thanks to info learned from this site)
Can someone advise if this is something that is easily added with a simple part replacement/addition, or is it something that would need to be done at the dealer?

Yes you need a remote start unit installed. There is no plug and play unit (as in your trailblazer) wich I find interestin....
Cruise control, plug in a $90.00 part? I am NOT a cruise control installer....so I really do not know.
Could someone explain this?

yes the trailblazer along with the v8 eqipped trucks(and im sure a few others) were factory set up fro cruise control all you had to add was a replacement stalk, plug in a couple wires at the main igniton molex and voila working cruise. just as today, alot of gms you just have to add a rf wireless cruise switch, hook up power/ground and 1 control wire and have the dealer use the drb to activate the bcm and cruise is done, there more than likely is a gm part that can be added to your uplander for remote start, but the dealer labor is probably huge even though it is only a couple wires, a molex jumper and program 2 of the remotes with remote start option, but an aftermarket unit professinally installed would be a better choice as the factory units have some user draw backs (such as you have no control over the heater it turns it on high/defrost) where as an aftermarket one you could have it opn vent low if you wanted, this vehicle has pkiii+ so an extra key or a nkr bypass by trilogix or the like would be required, also the key sense wire has to be activated or a fault code is displayed in message center whenever remote is used
