Hi,

I just finished installing power locks on a 2001 Ranger and they do not work. I used the schematic below but the factory lock switches are also connected to a ground. Do you think the ground at the lock switches are reason they do not work?

Thanks,

Chris

If the lock switch has 5 wires or 6 with illumination, you've done it correctly. Have you checked the switch to make sure it's powering the motors and not going to a separate  control unit? In this case ground each lead (of switch) through a test light to see if any action, if not repeat with atest light from a pos source. If any of these work then all you need are the lock unlock normally open leads GREEN/ black and blue /black, purple and PURPLE / black go to either ground or 12v+ and WHITE/ black and BROWN / black are not used.

Just had another thought, if you are installing power locks, at least one is a 5 wire. This means a control unit and everyone I've seen has 2 neg control wires for lock, unlock. Also where does the switch come from if you are installking locks? Also do they work with the switch?

1. The wire system is independent from other systems (accept for the alarm system)
2. My system was pulled from the junkyard from another ranger (see schematic below
3. Switch is from Ford
4. You see in my original posting my wiring. Do I need two more relays to power the switch before the switch wires are wired to the viper relay?

Throw away the switch and processor, just use the alarm to control the locks, you've made it over complicated.

Its mandatory if your actuators are setup to "ground" utilizing the unlock relay while pressing the lock button and vise versa. How do I rewire the truck so negative door locks are not used?

What do you think about this diagram?
