Hi everyone,

I'm installing a trunk solenoid so the trunk can be popped via remote, but I've run into a snag. In order to get the latch to release, the key must be in the lock. Without the key in, the release lever won't budge. I guess the tumblers inside the lock must be lined up to release. Once the key is inserted, I can move the latch freely (the key does not have to be turned at all).

I've installed trunk solenoids in several cars and have never run into this problem. Can anyone help me out? It's an older car, a '83 Porsche 944. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks in advance!
Eric

Is there any way to turn the key to "release" the cylinder to allow the tug of the solenoid? like the cars that have a push button releases that button so you can actually push it. I don't know.....just reaching here....posted_image

Sorry if this is silly but did you push the latch in before testing?

KarTuneMan - I know what you're talking about, but I cannot remove the key in the "turned position."

Howie II - The latches are connected to the lock via rods, if I disconnect the rods, the latches will move freely. So, the problem is the lock mechanism that won't turn unless the key is inserted. I guess I could remove the lock, and just install a swiveling device, but I still want to be able to open the trunk manually with the key.

Maybe I need to take of the device to make it visualizing it easier. Thanks for the ideas so far!
