I thinking about installing a Compustar 2W900FM-AS (with remote start) for my wife's 1995 Saturn SL2 and was wondering the number of relays (and where I would need to use them), the type of bulk wire to use, and anything else I would need to purchase/install. I do have a copy of the factory service manual. (We are college students and money is tight otherwise I'd bring it in to get installed). Also, can you program the Compustar options via remote or do you need a hand held programmer? Any assistance (tips & tricks) would be greatly appreciated.
The car has power locks and windows and an automatic transmission but does NOT have factory keyless entry or a factory alarm(no bypass required). From my understanding, it appears to be an easier install compared to most vehicles. Here's the wiring diagram for the 1995 Saturn:
1994-95 Saturn SL Security Information
Constant 12V+ RED / White Ignition Switch Harness
Starter Yellow Ignition Switch Harness
Ignition Pink Ignition Switch Harness
Accessory Orange Ignition Switch Harness
Tach White Or PURPLE / White (-) At Coil or Multi Coil Pack
Brake Switch Light Blue Brake Switch
Trunk Pin Light Green Trunk Light
Parking Lights Brown Steering Column or behind Fuse Panel
Head Lamp Tan Light Switch
Hood Pin n/a
Factory Disarm n/a
Door Trigger White (-) Behind Fuse Panel under Console
Door Lock Light Blue (-) Behind Fuse Panel under Console or Driver's Kick
Door Unlock Black (-)
Horn Wire Black (-) Steering Column
Windows Up LF=Dark Blue, RF=WHITE/ Blue/White, LR=Dark Green, RR=Light Green
Windows Down LF=Brown, RF=Tan, LR=Purple, RR=PURPLE / White
Thanks in advance,
Jim

You shouldn't need any additional wire besides what comes in the box. Some of the wires might be a little short, extend them with the same size wire. You can even use the unused wires that you cut off to extend the wires you need longer. Just make notes in the install guide of the colors you used to extend the wires in case you need to troubleshoot something down the road.
You have a very simple car to work on. You won't need any additional relays. Everything you need will be in the box. The only relay you will be using is the starter kill relay which is included. The hood pin that comes with the unit is junk. If you want a hood pin I would recommend a tilt switch like this

Also, I installed a power trunk release latch from a 98 SL2 and put it into the 95 SL2. Would I need a relay to get the trunk "pop" to work via Compustar remote?

Also, I was told I would need a relay for the door locks. Is this correct?

No

Maybe, depends how you wired the trunk release. If you already installed a relay, you can trigger the same relay using the Compustar.

What are your thoughts on using this harness to make the install easier?
It's a wiring harness from JBS Technologies - here's the link:
https://www.amazon.com/JBS-Technologies-SAT1-Harness-Applications/dp/B00063L8D4/ref=sr_1_2/002-8490381-7612827?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1189565718&sr=8-2
It just makes it easier for the thief to bypass the alarm. Unplug the T-harness...plug the factory harness back together and off you go.

Thanks A Ton JWorm!!!
So basically, all I have to do is match and splice wires and I'm good to go? no funky things like diodes or resistors to mess with?
What are your thoughts on this DVD?

I noticed, the wiring diagram (posted with my first post) shows 2 wires (white or PURPLE / white) I can use for the Tach signal located at the coil/multi coil pack. On the car at the coil packs, I have 3 wires - 2 white and 1 PURPLE / white..hmmm. The factory service manual states the 1 white wire as "TACH", the other white wire as "IGN.CONTROL(MFI)", the PURPLE / white as "REF HI (MFI)". Which one would I use?

I would recommend using a fuel injector wire. 4 cylinders....each one has a fuel injector. Each fuel injector has two wires going to it. One wire will be the same color at all 4 injectors. Do not use any of those 4 wires. Use any of the other wires.
Or...you could just use the white wire labeled TACH. Either will should work fine.
You have a very simple car. No relays or diodes needed.
I've never seen the DVD, but I'm sure it would be very beneficial for somebody who has never installed before. Would you be able to do an install on a 2007 Chrysler or GM after watching it? I highly doubt it. For a 1995 Saturn....it will probably be very useful.
