Subject: remote starter problem, 95 cutlass supreme

Hi, I have a 1995 cutlass supreme and I installed a remote starter/alarm in it, now when I try to use the remote start I hear the fuel pump start, the lights on the dash light up and then it unlocks the doors and then it stops, I have installed a bypass kit for the vats. The car has remote door openers installed from the factory that I think is the fault, 1 more thing, I unhooked the door lock/unlock wires on the unit I installed and it still unlocks the doors when I use the remote start. thanks in advance, Brad

I hooked the ignition wire to the pick wire(1st ignition) there was no mention of the 2nd ignition wire in the instructions and I also asked the person that I bought it from how to wire it, would that unlock the doors and shut down the remote start? thanks, Brad

Not necessarily but you will definately need that try to remote start the car with the key in the ignition if it starts than there is something wrong with your bypass if not then there is something wrong your install

Your locks should have nothing to do with it does it start with the key in the ignition

the problem is that when I try to use the remote start it turns on the fuel pump sends voltage to the starter then unlocks the doors and it never engages the starter. thanks, Brad

Hi, are you saying to unhook the ignition wire that it's hooked to and hook it to the 2nd ignition wire? thanks, Brad

If your remote starter doesn't have a second ignition output, but your car has 2 ignition outputs, you'll need to send power to both of the car's wires using relays.

Hi, I hooked up the 2nd ignition wire and it still does the same thing with the key in the ignition and not in, the part that I don't understand still is the doors unlocking when I try to start it with the remote. thanks, Brad

It's probably set up to do unlock before lock after start some systems use this as a factory alarm disarm function

Hi, the problem is that even if I unhook the door lock/unlock wires from the alarm/remote start unit it still unlocks the doors.

If you start the car with the regular key does it lock upon starting then unlock when you turn off the ignition thats highly likely being that it is a gm if so thats just ignition controlled door locks from factory

Hi, yes it does lock when it's put in gear and unlock when it's shut off, why does it unlock the doors when I try to remote start it? thanks, Brad

there are 2 ignition wires and I was told to just hook 1 of them up and was told that it didn't matter which 1 it was( I now have them both hooked up 1 going to the ignition and the 2nd wire going to ignition 2), was I told correct? the only wire that I'm not sure about is the wire that goes from the control unit to the door trigger I hooked that wire to the only blue wire that is connected to the headlight switch and it was a negative wire.   Here is what happens when I try to start it with the remote, the instrument lights come on in the dash, I hear the fuel punp then it shuts off and unlocks the doors because it shuts off the ignition. I have tried to remote start it with the key in the ignition and that doesn't help, it will start if I do it manually by turning the key. One more thing, I checked to see if it was sending voltage to the starter and it is NOT, it shuts down before doing that.

If the system doesn't start with the key in the ignition and if the starter wire isn't putting out voltage then there is a problem with the remote starter

the main unit shuts off before it sends voltage to the starter, I can only see 3 wires that have anything to do with shutting down the main unit.....the hand brake wire, grounded.....door trigger wire.....foot brake wire...I tested the hand brake ground and foot break wire and they are hooked up correct, the door trigger wire is supposed to be negative and there is no power to it.

Well the door pin shouldn't prevent the starter from turning over if anything it would stop the system from turning on at all. If there is only one blue wire at the headlight switch then it should be it does you dome light work or do you have a dome light override switch or button. Because that could cause problems with the system. On another note if the dome light bulb is burnt out that could also be a problem.

the dome lights come on when the doors open so that shouldn't be the problem, that narrows it down to the the brake wires and they check out ok.

Did you hook up and program the tach wire? Do you have a link to the manual or could you e-mail it to me chadwa2003@yahoo.ca

I hooked up the tach wire (they call it in their words HIGH VOLTAGE COIL STARTER )and checked to make sure that it was getting power(low voltage) .I didn't have to program anything but the bypass for vats. the manual is nothing more than a connection diagram, there are no real instructions, no trouble shooting tips or anything.

You don't have the unit set up to work in a manual transmission car do you?
