One of my assistant managers DESTROYED his ONLY Key chip trying to remove it for a remote start. Now the car cannot start. Lexus wants $1300.00 for a new ECU with 2 keys to replace it. Is there ANY way to bypass the key security or to program a new code and key to the original ECU? I am not that familiar with Lexus.

They "should" be able to program a new key for less than 150.00 (thats on the high side)

Why the new ECM, I have no idea.

Contact Chris Luongo, he's an expert on these types of situations.

Sounds like bulldoodie.  There's no way a lost/damaged key should require changing the ECU for $1300. They should be able to reprogram your existing ECU with new keys with their special equipment.

Well, I have been doing this since 1976 and realize they are feeding me manure about this because:

#1 Most auto mechanics know very little about the electronics of the cars they work on.

#2 They want to sell me a new unit.

#3 I am an installer and they don't want to share any information.

#4 For the most part I am smarter then they are.

Now, do you have any information that can help?

I believe the dealership is correct. I have read that in the first couple years when Toyota/Lexus came out with the immobilzer key that if you lost all the keys there is no way to program a key to the ECU. Recent models have this fixed, but your coworker is going to have to replace the ECU.

1. From everything I've heard, the dealership is correct.

2. Toyota, and especially Lexus, are often very generous when it comes to these sorts of things. Contact a Lexus dealer, and see what they can do about getting the factory to authorize the repair.

My sister has a '99 RX300, and the engine failed. They call it the "sludge motor."

After a little research online about Toyota extending the warranty on this engine, and contacting the right Lexus dealer, she not only got a new engine installed for nothing, but a free loaner car too.

Well, thanks to everyone. As it turns out, A Locksmith in Knoxville, TN., REPROGRAMMED the ECU and made THREE KEYS for it for $ 500.00. He had to drive it in three circles and let it all reprogram the car but EVERYTHING is working fine.

Y'all Have A Great Day!
