Does anyone have any thoughts on this idea.  I have a VW Jetta with the transponder key.  I have recently added an Autopage RS-1000 alarm/remote start.  I have been pondering the idea of going keyless ignition.  My thought is to relocate the transponder ring from the steering column to another area.  Then remove the transponder from the key and put it in the alarm remote, or some other device.  Place the transponder ring where the remote or whatever device holds the transponder can be placed in/near it.  Then wire in a pushbutton start.  Along with disabling the steering lock, etc..

Thoughts?

It's been done before, just make sure that the system can only be activated after the system is disarmed by the alarm system. The ACC and IGN system will have to be set on a toggle/relay system or if the alarm system has latched outputs to trigger relays for the ACC and IGN.

DON'T TRY TO REMOVE THE CHIP, USE THE WHOLE KEY with VW I've found that the chip breaks when you try to remove it.

I agree with it. Breaks very easily. We had such problems.
