I am about to install a remote starter on a 2000 mercedes ml430. Just wanted to know from anyone who has done one, if this vehicle is difficult to do? I also was doing some searching on the transponder bypass and i noticed you can install a box(with key) or you can take the orginal ring off the barrel and insert a key in it and hide that. I know by doing that will bypass the security at all times , but i would like to know what some of you installers did? ------------- Testing is the key

Beware, if installed improperly it will erase your key's programming and you would have to make a trip to the dealer. I know that by using the 556u and inserting the key in the box YOU MUST ALSO CONNECT THE PINK WIRE. The ML Series require that the key code not change during a run cycle and by connecing that wire it will make it work. Of course, you also have to connect the other three wires.

no that is the ORGINAL RING that is already on the barrel. I remove it from there and install the key in it and hide it under the dash permantly bypassed! ------------- Testing is the key

OK, I do this trick all the time with VW nd BMW BUT, our (UK) alarms come with two immob cuts. As long as you've done this you're OK as regards insurance.

One money saving side effect of that bypass is... they can cancel the theft portion of their insurance.

Ha very funny Mark, unfortunately that's just what I've been doing here for years, except that I'm usually installing a UK Cat I alrm with 2 concealed cuts anyway and until last year we couldn't get any decent by-passes anyway, I've only been recently introduced to Fortin and Trilogics by US buddies. With a Cat I if you turn alarm off and don't turn ign to on position the alarm will re-imobilise after one minute. You either turn key to ign position and press padlock or turn to ignition and enter your 4 digit pin code via the valet switch. Considering the propensity for G4 Clifford remotes to eat their battery holders and customers not listening when you explain how to by-pass the immobiliser or the 3 service calls I get every week to reprogramme/replace a remote and they haven't a clue as to where the valet switch is let alone their pin number, you do make a good point.
