93 toyota supra 791xv

I have a strange problem with my Viper 791xv. The alarm works perfectly, but the horn sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I will arm the car and set off the alarm on purpose and no sound comes from the horn. The remote triggers as well with the chirps.   One more thing, the status LED does not want to turn on anymore. The alarm has been installed for over a year and now is giving me problems. I've checked most connections.

if the horn works sometimes and not other times then it sounds like a connection issue with the horn wire. as far as the LED goes have you been able to look at the brain and see where the LED is plugged in? If you did not do the install then I would suggest to bring it back to whoever did it so they can troubleshoot it for you.

on an aside when you say horn you been the horn and not the siren right?

sorry just thought of something else. when you say that you checked most the wiring did you just visually check it? or did you test it with a meter. also if you soldered then it could be a cold solder on the horn wire(or siren whichever it is) or if it is the siren that is intermittent then i would also check the ground for the siren to make sure it is good. ok thats all of my ideas for now.

I think the horn is busted. I connected the positive to the battery and the ground to the negative side of the car battery. The alarm gives no output, does that mean I need a new horn? Thanks for the LED reply.

I'm not sure if my status led on my viper 791xv is busted. There is power coming from red wire, but none from the blue. Is that normal? I tested the LED with a battery, but nothing.

if you tested the LED with a battery you probably blew it up. the LED are only meant to take between 1-5volts at the most so if you "tested" it with anything more the 5 volts you definately blew it.

that being said, did you ensure that the LED was firmly plugged into the proper spot on the brain?(before you"tested" it?) I know it sounds simple but I know I have been caught numerous times cause it was not plugged in all the way or plugged in the wrong spot.

anyways get a new LED and make sure that it is plugged into the brain properly. Also make sure that you get a compatible LED cause different alarms send out different voltages to LEDs

Yea, I made sure it was plugged into the right part of the brain. The red wire is giving out power, so I assume the LED should turn on. Is there any way to check a LED without the brain? Thanks for the advice.

One more thing, is the alarm was in silent or valet mode, would the LED be off all the time?
