2001 dodge dakota, hornet 560t

I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota 2wd and am going to be installing a hornet 560t remote start system. I did a search and was able to find the correct wiring colors and charts. My question is, do I need a bypass module or any extra relays for this installation. I do not know much about wiring these up and would really appreciate any help you could provide.

OK well without having access to any tech sites I am 99% positive that on al dodge/chryslers if you have a key with a large black plastic end then it has an immiblizer in the vehicle but if you have either an all metal key or a grey chrysler key then you should be safe. i;m sure someone will come on and say for certain but I a pretty sure that I am correct.

DMM and some patience will find you all the neccessary wires.  Every 2000+ dakota i have done needed the door triggers double diode isolated because they falsed when the BCM shutdown.

Thanks for all the help guys, things went very well. I have it up and running and it only took about 45 minutes with your help. I have one problem though. the 560 t has a - pulse for the parking lights, but my parking lights are + controlled. I tried hooking into the headlight - wire, but nothing happened. I would greatly appreciate help on this last detail if anyone can help.

In the kick panel at the CTM (Central Timer Module) there is a RED / yellow connector 1 pin 4. This is the negative trigger for parking lights in the 01 Dakota.

You could also use a relay to change the parking light output to positive and hook it up to that positive trigger at the headlight switch. Relay wired like:

Pins 30 and 85 + Fused 12V supply
Pin 87 Out to BLACK / YELLOW positive parking light wire at switch
Pin 86 white negative parking light trigger from 560T

found it! WORKS PERFECTLY!! Thanks a bunch. One more question if you don't mind. the antenna reception. I ran the antenna up on top of the steering column, to where it is sticking out about an inch. The range is terrible, I have to be within 50' to get it to activate, is there any way to improve this?

Unfortunately there is not much you can do other than trying to change the location of the antenna/brain on that system. Try to keep it away from all metal and make sure that your system has a clean ground. Do not ground it to a factory bolt, rather pick a small area in the kick panel away from any harnesses or moving parts and scrape off all paint/primer. Use a locking washer and ground it there.

You will never achieve the range of a unit that utilizes an external antenna but you should still get better than 50'.
