now before i start, i'll say that i did do a search and came up with a few threads that were close to this problem, but none that were the same.

i have the viper vx791 with the responder remote. about 5 days ago, either my remote or the alarm itself stopped communicating. I already changed the battery.

I can still press the AUX button to open my trunk with no problems as well as the remote start.
I can not arm and disarm the alarm though. When I press the arm or disarm buttons I get the 3 beep code on the keyfob indicating that communication failed.

My thoughts are that the remote is bad. That doesn't explain why I can use the AUX button and the remote responds to me pressing the arm and disarm buttons though.

I then thought that it was the receiver, but like I said, I can still open the trunk.

any ideas?

well, I disconnected and reconnected the antenna on both ends and still nothing. I traced the wires of the antenna and they're good.

I took apart the brain box, looks like the solder points are fine.
Same with the antenna box.

is there a battery in the brain? I didn't notice while I was looking at it.
would the battery in the brain cause this?

I also took apart the remote and everything is fine.

Sounds like your remote is bad. Try reprogramming the remote to the brain and see if it doesn't help.

I do not beleive there are any batteries inside anything other than the remote.  Like twelvoltz said, try reprogramming the remote.

I'm not a professional installer. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

I believe that the AUX channel is NOT a code hopping channel.  If the remote is 'off track' with the receiver then you'll experiance what you are experiancing.  Try reprogramming the remote.
