Hello,

I recently purchased a new Honda Civic and I found that the dealer left the Anti Theft Device they install on the cars on there lot.  When I was shopping I overheard a salesman say they offer to keep it in the car, or they will take it out on delivery...well the topic never came up in my purchase and I just realized tonight that it is in there when I was installing my bluetooth Parrot kit.  Can anybody here identify what this is, and maybe explain how it works and how I could use it.  There is a small button switch under the steering console panel with a flashing green LED, and here is a picture of the module that was in the dash.  On the other side of the module is a green dial (recessed with a philips head slot) labeled Min and Max.  Any help is appreciated.

to my knowledge that is just the factory shock sensor for the factory alarm. the dial is to adjust the sensitivity of the shock sensor it self. I may be wrong but I beleive that is what it is

It is deffinitely a dealer add as I doubt the factory would wire tie it to one of the steel support pieces, plus it is t-tapped in.

ok then I was unaware of the t-taps and the steel plates. nevertheless it is still just a shock sensor which is tied into the factory alarm in my opinion.

It has a quite large harness..... what is, or was, it connected to?

It is tied into a number of things.  I think it is some sort of all in one deal...shock sensor and alarm system in one.  I didn't trace all the wires but it has a number of smaller wires that are connected in, plus I think it is connected into the ignition system to cut-off power.  I have tried pressing on the button and holding it and it will beep the horn.  The sales person happened to call me this morning so I asked him about it, and he said they were supposed to offer service on it to me (at a nice price I am assuming) and they would activate it...but it seems active already as it flashes etc.  He is checking into it and supposed to get back to me.  When he calls back I am going to see if he can get me the make/model so I can research it a little deeper to see exactly what it is.

The activation is probably selling you the remote for it. Depending on what they charge you, you are probably going to be able to get a better alarm installed in a location that you can't get that good of a picture taken of it. (I am assuming it is a good picture...I can't access links from work...)

I had the dash apart is why I could get a picture (plus I cut the ties holding it in place to try and find a model).  Never heard back from the dealer, will have to give them a buzz in the morning.  Anybody else have a clue what it might be until then?

That is what is called an HP3 alarm system. It is installed by Southwest Dealer Services. The only way to activate it is to get an activation chip from the dealership. They are frontloaded on every vehicle. Take a picture of the led pod for me, and i can tell you if it has been activated by the dealer or not.
