I'm trying to get a remote start to work for my Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS (manual transmission).  Do I need anything specific for it to work?

Yes..... you do. You need FIRST, a remote start designed for a manual transmission.

What are you trying to install?

if the NSS exist on these model like my diagram says, then you can use any remote start unit you like.

My personal vehicle is the exact same as yours, it was a very straightforward install, very installer friendly cars to work on.

Alright, when he hooks up to the NSS since it's a (+) would he need to reverse the polarity with a relay so it acts as a neutral safety? Also do Subarus only need one ignition pulse not like a Honda that has 2 IGN wires? Don't worry thread jacking because I'm helping with his install. Thanks for any help.

Heres a diagram of your vehicle's NSS. Subaru calls it NPS.

At neutral, the ECU will not see 12vdc+. When in gear, the ECU will get the 12vdc+ signal. Test it, for sure.

Thats correct, you will need to wire up a relay to switch the polarity to fit w/ your RS unit.

Amt of IGN or ACC wires will be dependent on makes and models. The diagram given to you maybe not 100% accurate, although I trust it, you also need to check it on your own. The amt of ign or acc wires can be figured out w/o a diagram, and only need a DMM.
