Your 98 Cavalier has what GM called the PassLock I system. You would need to bypass this while remote starting. There are a couple of options available to you however I recommend using the PLJX.

There are a lot of good quality starters out there however most do not warranty their units if self installed. My preference is DEI product but they do not warranty any of their decent units if self installed. You can get some of their manuals from the downloads section of this site. I also find the Audiovox/Prestige products to be of good quality. You can get all of their manuals from Audiovox.com. There is also the Scytek brand and although in my opinion they are the best quality I have done several of these units that people brought to me and none have come back. They offer warranty for the do it yourself installation and have all of their manuals on their website Scytek.net
