Im working on installing a Viper 160XV on my moms rav4, ive done lots of vehicle wiring, but im a lil lost on the actual starter wire. The starter wire coming from the ignition is a very thin gauge and i dont know if its ok to hook up the start wire from the remote start unit. Do i need to use a relay? I know there are ppl who have successfully installed this unit on this forum.

The 04 RAV4 has an 18gauge starter wire at the ignition harness. It is OK to hook your starter output to this wire.

If you were to power a 10ga wire with a 18ga supply it could cause serious problems. However supplying a 18ga with a 10ga will just not use the full supply capacity of the circuit.

The 2000 Rav4 wont need the DEI 451m will it? It just has the a door lock wire and door unlock wire so i can just cut off the DEI and wire it directly correct?

This is to trigger an additional relay if your vehicle has more than one starter wire. The 2000 Rav4 does not need this connection.

Your 160XV provides negative trigger door lock outputs. Your Rav4 uses negatives to trigger door locks so you do not need the 451M.

Sorry for being such a pain but this WAS my first install notice the past tense, finished it up today, needless to say thanks to your help. Everything appears to be working just fine i just have to tuck the unit and install the LED, valet switch and antenna. Didnt even have to adjust the crank time, started right up. Only bit of info i can add is an error in the wire color sheet.

Door Lock      Blue/White (-)        Driver's Kick Blue Connector Negative Trigger or at Lock Module behind Glove Compartment

Should be Blue / YELLOW (-) i believe as this was the case in my moms 2000 Rav4
