I just got a mail order Compustar 1W900FM.
(Wanted very small remotes, distance, saw no sense to 2 way....)
Box has "CM3000A" 'brain' and CM4200A/M book.
Brain sticker mentions CM3000 ONLY with jumper (to cut), and dip switches.
Brain does NOT have jumper or dip switches.
Addendum to book (CM4200VS-1) mentions a 'new' system with programable tach.
Compustar site manuals don't seem to cover a 3000 without switches/jumper.
Questions -
1 Is a CM3000A appropiate for a 1W900FM system for automatic car?
2 Is lack of switches/jumper right for CM3000A?
3 Does CM4200VS-1 addendum apply to 'new' CM3200A?
4 What is the default for the tach sense, what is the option?

1. Years ago Compustar brains had the 'green loop' to cut inside to make it for an automatic transmission. A couple years ago Compustar started shipping them programmed either as Auto or Manual with no way to change it. Supposedly it was to prevent consumers from cutting 'the loop' on their units to take them out of Manual Transmission mode...thus making it a very unsafe situation. I believe they always kept 'the loop' for units meant for the Canadian market because they aren't so lawsuit happy up there. When they came out with the Compustar Pro units the "green loop" came back. I hear the 'green loop' is also being put back on US units. If you have a CM3000A unit....it is designed for an automatic transmission. A CM3000m would be for a manual. Unfortunately, thru all these changes they never upated the manual.

4. Default is tach sense....use it. The other option is "alternator sensing'. It requres you to connect to the stator wire at the alternator. I believe VERY recent units may also have some sort of built in voltage sensing that doesn't require connection to a tach source or to the stator wire. In all cases, a tach connection works best.

JW - thanks for most informative reply. The Compustar site is not very clear on anything but remotes....
I have a terminal #9 Alt/Tach Input, so I'll assume I'm recent but not brand new, i.e., no longer dip switches (software options) but still separate input for sense (and not inherent sensing).
KTM - ebay guy (dozens of units), close to Ca border? Anyway, a model update or a wrong manual thrown in is not uncommon anywhere...

all of the new and old compustar units have the green loop. its the ones that were built about 6 months ago that didn't.. and it sucked. they were obvious with a "automatic" or "manual" sticker right on the brain.
Well you have an older version brain. Jword pretty much summed it up. You should still have dip switches in the brain. Just look at the back for directions. You can also print a manual on the compustar website.
