This is a heads up for this and current VAG/Porsche, possibly M/Benz and BMW. Without a CAN convertor, you cannot pick-up on locks, w/roof/close, light flash or haz or door, trunk, or hood contacts. e.g. drivers door has 6 wires going in, +, - ig and 2 pair can, this to control mirrors, windows, locks and audio. I know some smart alex is going to try and shoot me down here but really do we want to spend another 3 hours on a car proving me wrong, even the door contacts are now Molex connectors.

I believe you Dude... why would you ever try to do one of these vehicles without a CANBUS module anyways ?? What a waste of time trying to find all those wires.

your 6 wires are- 12volt and ground, CAN-h and CAN-l, + and - speaker leads. EVERYTHING on the door is CAN, including the power mirrors and what not.
if you can get a hold of a CAN-1 from Directed you're all set.

As a PS I did an BlackJax into an R8 Audi the other week, 4.2 V8 buried at rear, couldn't even see injectors didn't want to go to coil packs* so i banged a cheap, used CAN sensor fom a Sat Nav into the Audi on the ign CAN wires and it worked a treat. Saved at least 4hrs, you know what its like stripping Audis, no warantee issues and chaged for the unit. We buy the CAN1 in at about £40 ($80) and sell on at £80 ($160) so if you're just plugging in to a Viper there's extra profit straight away! * VW decided to make their suppliers reduce the # of windings on the coil packs 3 years ago to save costs, they've had nothing but problems ever since; so if you feed tach from a VAG group car and there are problems, who do you think is going to get the blame? In Europe we have no trading acts to protect us in fact car manufacturers are bloc exempt from EU fair play regs, it's killed the car audio business in UK
