Subject: adjusting remote start, how?

i have been unable to autostart my car with my viper alarm (the model escapes me but its the best one they make). it actually turns over the motor but just before it starts, the crank stops. sometimes when the motor has been running a while, it will start but on a cold start, it needs a little more "turn of the key".

my question is: how do i adjust to turn up the "crank"? i assume its under the dash but what might it look like? and is it a screw like adjustment? under the hood? etc etc. please let me know if you guys have a clue where and how i might be able to fix this. thanks RX

The best way to fix this would be to hook up the tachometer wire and program it. It sounds like your system was not hooked up using the tachometer connection and is instead using the voltage sensing option. If you want to just increase the crank time grab your manual from the downloads section of this site...but there is both the 790 and the 791 listed. In either case the feature to increase crank time is 3-5.

I would check to make sure the second starter wire is connected.

Also, like said above, make sure the tach is connected and programmed.

There are no hardware crank adjustments.  The DEI units operate in one of two ways - either tach or voltage monitoring.  In tach mode there are absolutely no adjustments as the unit can detect when the motor is running.  In voltage mode you can adjust how long the starter cranks, but it is a software setting you need to access through the valet switch.  If your installer didn't take the time to install the tach wire most likely your valet switch is missing as well.

Good luck!
