I have a Python 871xp installed and am trying to program a second remote but I can't get into the transmitter/receiver learn routine. I followed the instructions from the Viper 771xv manual (open door, ignition on, push valet button once, hold valet button, push transmitter, release), but when I push the valet button and hold it, nothing happens. If I'm locked out of programming, there should be a long chirp, which I don't get. Nothing happens, no LED flashing, no chirping. However, I'm able to get into the system features learn routine and change those around just fine (door open, ignition on then off, push button, etc).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It is possible that it was locked out by a bitwriter. Just to make sure; you are pressing the button, releasing it, then holding it in then pressing button one.

also make sure that your door trigger is hooked up and reading the door being open. If the unit does not see the door open, then it will not go into programming mode.

Yeah, I'm doing it exactly as it says in the manual. I don't think it was locked out by bitwriter because I can still change the system features, but I could be wrong.

Is there an easy way to figure that out? The alarm goes off when I open the door using the key when armed. Is that enough? Thanks for the help.

thats good enough.

Programming features is independent from remote programming. Bitwriter can lock it independently.
