I have an older bypass (GM SL) that I know works on an '06 - the instructions end at '06 since it is an older unit- but will it work on an '07-- my hunch is that nothing has changed in '07- but I would like to know before I go get the truck-  Thanks for your help-  I know there are newer versions- like the GM SL2 etc- but I would like to use up my inventory of GM SLs  - Thanks

Big difference, one is Passlock 2 and the other is Passkey 3.....

Thanks for the quick response- What bypass module do you recommend?

Use the CANSL2 or the PATS-GM2. Personally I would use the CANSL2 because it's got everything on there already for easy hook up ( inputs and outputs ).

I guess what has me confused is that when I look up the application of the CAN SL2 it says it is not a transponder bypass (no red dot under that header in that column) and it is not a Passlock Bypass--- But it does have a red dot under the new header "OEM Ignition Key"  -- So am I to assume that this module actually takes on the programming as if it were a third ignition key- and this is why it works when remote started- even though it does not have a wire loop to wrap around the ignition barrel?   I was afraid to buy one when both those bypass columns say it does not do that function---   Thanks for your continued input.

It doesn't say that it bypasses a transponder because it's a PK3+ system and under the features list, it bypasses the PK3+ system which is a hybrid Passlock and PK3 system. I've used the CANSL2 system on alot of newer GM vehicles already and it's pretty slick. All you need really for bypass and interface.

When you purchase one make sure you ask them to send you a Firmware 12.0 or newer otherwise there's compatibility issues. If the place has a flashlink updater they can flash the new firmware for you. This is what we do to ensure the newest software updates are available.

I got my CAN SL2 yesterday- it is firmware 12.0 which is good- I was wondering what is the best way to sense the tach signal- is the one coming out of the CAN SL2 adequate? or should I look elsewhere?  I did not see a white wire at the instrument cluster in its schematic- I haven't seen the truck yet--- Thanks- oh and the CAN SL2 instructions shows a  negative "ground out" input on connector #2-  I can only assume this is the "ground out while running" output from my remote starter- most product descriptions actually state "ground out while in R/S mode" - I can't imagine this being a permanent ground- correct?  Thanks

Did the install yesterday- all went great after I discovered that the CAN SL2 actually "introduces the starter wire through a 1280 ohm resistor for you"  I had wired the R/S starter wire through a 1280 ohm resistor to the the white start wire in ignition harness- as well as hooked up the CAN SL2 as instructed-- the CAN SL2 programmed fine- but when I tried to R/S - the engine did not crank!!  - so I figured my resistor was off- or my R/S starter wire was inop- so I cut the resistor and start wire out to measure the voltage- and the truck now starts!!!  wth - with no start wire needed---- SO my point is why did not the CAN SL2 instructions have a sidenote that states-- "HEY you don't need to wire in a start wire from your R/S unit when using this module" -----would have made a lot more sense and save me over an hour- hunting a resistor wiring, dubugging etc.....

I did have a rotten thing happen though-- when I went to stick the antenna on the windshield right below the mirror- as I pressed it into place- there was a small pop-- The @$#@$@#$ windshield cracked-- what rotten luck- the owner is not happy but understands it's not my fault- I bet I pressed with only maybe 5 lbs force- what rotten thing to happen after a very clean install.....
