I'm trying to sell a truck for my brother-in-law in Iraq... He has a prestige alarm w/ remote start.

The problem I'm having is when i push the start button twice ... the truck starts right up , but then dies almost imediately...I'm sure it's something stupid but what am I overlooking.

it's a 2001 Z71... and I'm not sure what model the alarm is.  I just know by looking at the remote it's a Prestige 1 way remote (4 buttons : lock, unlock, option, and trunk/key)

It was installed over a year ago, and it's worked fine... but now that he's gone and i'm trying to sell his truck... it won't stay running

I figured out how to start it by pressing one of the auxillary buttons twice... and it turns over and starts right up... but less than a half a second later it dies.... then after about 20 to 30 seconds it starts again  and dies again and so on and so on.

I'm sure it just something stupid I'm not doing right , but I cant figure out what it is.

If it is actually starting, running, then shutting off I would have to think the remote start does not know that the truck is running. Try reprogramming the tachometer. This is taken from the 686T manual but I believe most Prestige/Audiovox/Code systems program the same:

1. Turn the ignition key to the ON position.
2. Press and release the program pushbutton switch 3 times.
3. Immediately turn the ignition key OFF.
4. Press and hold the program pushbutton switch, then start the vehicle using the ignition key.
5. When the unit senses the tach signal, the parking lights will begin to flash.
6. Release the program pushbutton switch. The parking lights will turn on for 3 seconds to indicate that the
tach signal is stored and the unit is now out of the program mode.

Try this and get back to us.

It's not something you're doing wrong. It's most likely something wrong with the installation.

1. If a professional shop installed it, they likely guarantee their work. However, they might void the guarantee if someone else attempts a repair.........try to contact them first if you can.

2. Look under the hood. There is possibly a wire (GREEN/ orange) coming through the firewall, connected to the engine or the engine computer, this is the tachometer wire.

It could have come loose, either due to corrosion or a careless mechanic, take a look.
