I'm installing an alarm on a new '08 RAM 1500. The truck already has a working LED on the dashboard that lights up during the bulb check when it is started. According the manual, it's used for the factory alarm, which is not present on the truck. But since it works, I was hoping someone might know what wire might be used. In a service manual, it's probably referred to as VTSS or EVS.
Any help would be appriecated.

The red blinking light that you see in the dash serves a dual purpose, it is for tha factory alarm as well as for the tranponder key , you truck is equipped with an immobillzer when the key is turned the cars sees the key and the lights lights up for a few seconds. Just mount the light that comes with you alarm.

Is up to the installer to test all wires with a DMM whenever possible.
I was hoping someone would have more techincal info, like a wiring diagram. I wanted a cleaner install. According to the dealer techs, it's not connect to the sentry system. It's for the factory alarm (VTSS) only. The owners manual confirms this. It states with out the factory alarm, the light will still illuminate during the normal test cycle.

The light on the bottom right corner is for the transponder on the key. Besides you cant't use it it is contolled trough CAN bus there is no wire for it behind the cluster, But if you find it keep as posted. Ijust 3 of those cars last week and I use the indicater light to allow me to program new Keys.
P.S. Can any one else add to the subject (Installers only)

It's controlled internally in the cluster, there is no wire that exits the cluster for it.
