I am in the middle of installing a crime stopper remote start in my truck and it almost works like it is supposed to! I've installed the unit without all of the communication to the factory alarm and I haven't hooked up the PATS bypass yet. When I try to start it without the key in the ignition the accesories turn on but the car won't crank, as I would expect without the key. When I put the key into the ignition and try to start the car remotely the accesories come on and the car will start to crank and then stop. It only cracks for about a 1/4 second. If I put the key in, push the remote start, turn the switch to the "On" position the car starts. What does this mean? Have I got something hooked up wrong or do I need to have the PATS bypass hooked even for testing?

You probably dont' have all the ACC wires hooked up and also did you hook up the tach wire to the proper tach input on the truck ? | ITEM | WIRE COLOR |POL| WIRE LOCATION | | 12V|yellow |+ |ignition harness | | STARTER|RED / light blue |+ |ignition harness | | IGNITION|lt. Diode isolate each wire. See direct fax document #1076 for wiring information. There is a single wire available on models with factory security. It is lt. blue/white negative trigger found in the drivers kick in the large harness to the rear. *3 The ignition coil is located near the center of the motor on all models. Can also get tach behind the instrument cluster, the wire is tan / YELLOW. *4 Under the hood at the top of the firewall towards the passenger side. Can also get vss behind the instrument cluster. ------------- Jeff

First I have to say you must be the man on installations. If you were located near me I would have had you do the install!
I've hooked the wires according to the manual. How can I tell if I have hooked up to the correct wire of the remote to the correct ignition wires? Is there a voltage that I can observe when the key is turned to the different positions?
I am running the remote in tachless mode.

First off, I would run the remote starter in a tach mode ( it's really a better idea if you do it this way.... trust me ). The Ford also has a few IGN wires as well as a few ACC wires ( you probably noticed that already ). There are alot of information out saying different things about the Ford, but I know that you need to power up both larger GREY / YELLOW wires for the second & third IGN wires. You will need relays for this and power up the relay with the second IGN output from the RS unit if it's a (-) trigger output.

My unit has an output for a second ignition or accesory output. Should I connect this output to the Grey / YELLOW wire or do I need a relay? My high curreny connector has two 12v constants, a started wire, an ignition wire, an accesory and the second ignition/accesory. I'll check to make sure my colors are correct.
If I did have them connected should the car start with the key in the ignition without turning the key to the on position (even with the PATS)?

If the car started with it just being in the cylinder & doesn't start with it in the cylinder, then it's a PATS related issue. If the car has to be in the ON position to start then it's and IGN issue. Make sure that the 2nd IGN wire is a (-) or a (+) output wire & this will determine the relay set you will need for the GREY / YELLOW wires.

That makes me feel a lot better. The car has to be in the one position so it must be a wiring thing. Thanks a ton. I love this site.
