Hi Guys,

I just got a 1997 Cavalier and I am about to install an Ultrastart  U-2270A-TL remote starting/car alarm in it. Seems like the vehicle does not have any anti theft devices in it so is there anything in particular I need to worry about or is this just a regular install? BTW, is the shock sensor built into the main module of this alarm unit because it did not come with a seperate shock sensor?

Thanks.

Mo

Did the unit come with an install manual?

I believ this unit you use the transmitter and your hand to puond on the car to set the level for the shock sensor. PITA in my opinion.

The vehicle does have passlock 1

correct press unlock 3 times in 3 seconds and it will beep 3 times. then using ur hand palm bump the A pillar 3 times to set the sen of the shock sencor. then hit unlock and it's set. i believe the shock sensor is in the antenna. and i like the shock sensors in these very reliable and you can adjust on the fly...

The valet button is in the antenna, the shock sensor is in "the brain" itself.

Cavalier '95-up has Passlock. Not sure if yours has Passlock I or II, but it should definitely have one or the other.

Wait a minute, I do not understand how it would have Passlock because I have aftermarket keys that were made at the local hardware store and It does not immobilise or anything! I do not have any remotes that came with the car either...

Passlock is in the ignition cylinder not in the key.

97's have passlock 1. passlock's are in ignition coil (not chip in key) therefore aftermarket keys will work.

Don't forget  that pesky "bulb check" wire that must be activated during the start mode only on that yr Cavalier- it is part of the Passlock........
