A friend of mine has a 2005 civic that he wants me to install a remote start on. The car is a manual transmission and he has a cliiford matrix alarm/remote start that says its only intended for use on automatic transmissions. I was wondering despite what the alrm box says, can this alarm still be safely installed and used in a manual transmission vehicle?

Not as it sits, BUT DEI recently released the 689M adding this will make your unit safe to install in a manual transmission vehicle.

i seond that, DEI made 689M to allow those non safe starters on SAFE for manual cars. Compustar carrys a line specific for manual, and other untis just have a 1 unit with the option of auto or manual by cutting a jumper cable. The 689M makes u enter a sequence before leaving the car to ensure its safe to start. most units require you to pull ebrake, put can in neutral let go of brake, hit the start on ur remote starter, exit and car still runs, close door; car stops running. it actaully make ssense because how can u exit ur car while its running or in gear.

Is that module sold in local installation shops or do I have to contact dei to get that product?

im sure if u look for DEI authorized dealers they should have it. I dont guarentee becasue i dont deal with DEI, but for sure you local shop would have it. i dont think DEI would even sell to you or any individual. only authorized people

MOST authorized DEI dealers won't even consider touching a manual transmission remote start install. This magical interface will be harder to find than one would think!

"MOST authorized DEI dealers won't even consider touching a manual transmission remote start install" thats proably true because there are crazy law suits out there. i think its 180 thousand for attempted man slaughter and the other goes back to the installer - who might get his/her license revoked and maybe changed or end up doing time somwhere. If you have a safe unit for manual by all means, but if its auto designed, but u want it to do manual, eeeeekkkk. if some1 accidently left it in gear, it will nudge forward even with ebrake.

i trush prostart and compustar. - but they expensive i would say, but nice units. THe compustart pro is proably the best unit i have ever used and owned.

get your buddy to sell his auto R/S and just go get a MANUAL SAFE R/S!! there is too much risk involved in using something that it was not intended to do! by the time he gets this new 689M to mod his auto R/s his cost im sure will be more then just going with the manual safe R/s.

I've installed Ultrastart in many manual transmission cars/trucks. No problems with any of them. I still need to pick one up and put it in my truck.
