Ok, I already have this fixed but it has happened to me 3 times now and freaks me out each time. I had this happen after installing a RS, then a RS alarm on my sisters Cherokee and then I had it happen again today with a RS (all DEI). My sisters is a 99, the one I did today is an 01 and I forget what the other one was, but it was +97. What happens is this, I put it all in and it’s working fine. Button everything up and put it all back together. Then I go to turn it on to pull it out of the bay and the engine cranks and cranks but will not catch. If I give it some gas then the engine starts to rev up then dies whenever I stop giving it gas (acts like its carbureted). To fix it I took the + and - off the battery and held them together and let them sit, it usually takes a while but it took a few tries today and had me worrying the whole time.
It acts like a sentry key system but they are all black keys.
PLEASE tell me that this has happened to someone else. This cannot be just coincidence, its happened to me 3 times. If this has happened what did you do to fix it? Anyone know why it does it? At this point I’m at the "well its working now" stage when it finally does work so I cannot figure out the real reason.
Someone please spare me more gray hairs.

I cannot speak specifically for the Jeep vehicles but I know for a fact that with the full size dodge pickup trucks in the same model years you specified the computer loses memory when you disconnect the battery. You actually have to 2-foot the vehicle (raising the idle while braking to stop) for a couple of miles so the computer can relearn where idle is supposed to be.

That sounds weird, but the thing is that this happens before I disconnect the battery, I test my ignition wires by starting the vehicle and it works fine. When I'm all done, I try out the remote start and it works fine. Then when I get the vehicle all together is when it starts to happen. I have not tried that gas brake deal, but it doesn’t sound like something I would like to try.
it seams like there is a fuel delivery problem or the computer needs to be reset (to relearn idle speed)like you said the dodge need also, that would explain why disconnecting the battery seams to work like it resets the computer or something.
anyone else have any insite?

havent had a problem with any of the Grand Cherokees either, my problem is with Cherokees, 97-01 (last year they were made)
