Subject: engine shuts off when alarm is disarmed
Date Posted: December 02, 2007 at 1:34 AM

I just installed a firesun/prostar gold 2-way alarm/remote start in my 99 dodge ram. When I start my truck with the remote start then disarm my alarm it shuts off the engine, I cannot remote start the truck without the alarm being armed either.. I don't know if this is normal for this alarm/remote start or not, but my last setup was a 791xv in a 98 cadillac sts and I could remote start it, disarm the alarm and it would stay running... Any help would be greatly appreciated. posted_image

This is not normal for a traditional r/s-alarm unit...

1) who installed it? Can you take it back?

2) If all wiring is installed correctly (i.e. no relays are tripping/interrupting ignition wiring via the arm/disarm), then the brain seems to be either 1) incorrectly programmed, or 2) defective

I've never worked with the above type of remote starter

sounds as if u had the ignition killed wired wrong. did u wire it so when disarmed there would be continuity? becasue some units have ground out when armed, some other units have ground out when armed (constant) and its not like ground when running.

Thanks for the replies.. I installed it myself but I have done several alarms and remote starts, so this kinda boggles me.. The thought of the Starter kill Relay being wired incorrectly Has me thinking.. I know it does work, I have tried starting the Truck when it is armed and it does kill the starter, And the truck starts perfectly fine when disarmed.. I'll try unhooking the starter kill relay and see if it works properly then...

I thought about it for a second and the only relay I have in the system is for the starter disable which only controls the starter wire so that shouldn't have any affect on my problem.. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the acc. (key input wire) wire possibly.. here's a link to the install manual for my alarm.. FireSun Alarm/Remote Start Install   And It's installed in a 1999 Dodge Ram Sport..

i read through the manual... nothing i read applies to your problem... i think you may have a defective brain -- disarming should have NOTHING to do with the remote starting feature

Look and see if starter side and white from rs are on 30 pole on relay and if key side is on 87a pole of relay.  (may be backwards)

What is your WHITE/ red hooked up to? (ign sence) should be on your trucks ign wire

It really sounds like the starter kill is on the ign wire making it an ign kill.

Take out your starter kill all together to test.

Test it w/your meter!!!
