I’ve seen this question here before but with no answer. How do you install an aftermarket alarm (06’ Explorer) and retain factory convenience features like puddle lamps, fog lights at night, dome light, etc? I had a well know semi national car stereo shop install a Clifford Matrix 12 on my Explorer and they seem to have installed it as quickly and cheaply as possible. Besides the obvious alarm feature all it dose is unlock & lock all doors at once and flash the parking lights. And at the time of install the dealer told me it would lock the doors right away upon start up, nope that’s still governed by the speedo. They didn’t even wire up the dome light supervision because that doesn’t come on until a door is opened. The factory keyless system still works fine. So is this just a poor install? Is there an interface module to retain factory features? I obviously don’t want to go back to the dealer and have them try to fix it unless it’s a simple quick fix. And they didn’t provide me with the install guide. So I’m almost to the point of purchasing another Matrix 12 just to get the install guide to see if I can fix it.

if u want to keep factory featues, a module from idatalink should keep factory lights, domelight supervision etc, door locks, etc. They probably didnt wire up the dome light because they were lazy or didnt want to waste a relay. and when they said the door will lock after start-up, on some units it will have the feature to pulse-after-start. meaning after it has started, the doors will lock. Some cars require Unlock-start-relock. if they cut corners and ur not satisfied, by all means take it back and complain about all the things u want fixed. They should fix it or refund ur moneya nd just tell them to take out the whole system.

I would call it a basic install, rather than a poor install.
However, I'd say it's poor salesmanship on their part.......if they'd had a conversation with you, and figured out what you wanted, not only would you have been happier, but the shop would have made more money, because all of these features generally come with an extra charge.
Having the aftermarket alarm lock the doors when you turn on the ignition, should be something they can easily do just by changing the programming.
The better way to go about this would have been to install an aftermarket alarm that works off the factory remotes. That way, you would have kept all the factory features like the puddle lamps, without paying anything extra.

Thanks for the replies. I took the rig back to the installer and told them about the problems I was having with the alarm system and they said "sure we can fix that. But it'll cost you." So $160 later the alarm works the way I wanted it to. I guess they consider dome light supervision & the ability to pop the hatch extras. And holy smokes if I wanted driver door priority that would of been another $200. Oh well, live and learn.

some shops will rip a hole in ur walet, but i really depends on the area.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing.
I probably would charge $25 at the time of install, or maybe $50 if the customer changed his mind later, and made me take the car apart all over again.......but not $200.
