Hey everyone, I am researching which autostart security system I am going to put in my Jeep. Right now I am trying to decide between the Viper 5900 and the AutoPage RS-1000 OLED. Any suggestions or experiences with either one? Here is some info:
2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado Edition
Viper 5900: https://www.viper.com/Products/Product.aspx?Productid=103
AutoPage RS-1000 OLED: https://www.autopageusa.com/t_inside.cfm?action=products&catid=1004&prodID=fc5a9b72-bafd-4243-9355-ebe9de1a12be
Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I have installed Autopage products and Viper (DEI) products. My vote would be for the Viper unit. However if you install the unit yourself you will get no warranty at all through DEI. I am not sure about Autopage's policies on self installed units. Although I have never had an Autopage unit come back, the DEI units had larger gauge wire for the ignition wiring, copper wire instead of aluminum, better programming IMO, and just did not 'feel' as cheap.

Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.
viper are good units. so are autopage. i like the autopage rs1000 cuz its oled screen. the range is amazing on both and they have similar features. I jsutt think the autopage remote is kinda tooo small. if u got big fingers like myself, its hard to push sometimes. But it does have a menu which is cool.
Several things that I like about the AutoPage is the temp readout for inside the car and the multi channel transmitter which I can program my garage door to. The ignition wire I am not too worried about unless it is something like a super large guage wire that is just a few strands of metal wire coated.
Twelvoltz, or anyone else, what is IMO? Also thank you for your relpy!
Tedmond, do you have either one of these systems or have experience with them?
Several features that I am curious about include the following:
-Interior Lights: My Jeep has interior lighting already which is controlled by the onboard computer, I know Autopage has a feature for the interior lights to be illuminated for 30 seconds after unlocking it....do I have to use this or could I just not wire this feature so I can use my factory settings for the interior lights?
-If I install one of these, will my factory remote still work for my car?
-My Jeep Key has a chip in it, what do I need to byass this inorder for the remote start to work?
Thank you again for your replies!

IMO means - In My Opinion

i have helped install one of them for my friends car. TO be honest, its a cool and sick unit (rs1000) to play with. The menu is kind of hard to get down and into ur brain, but feature wires, range, warrenrt, and durability, same as dei products. I have installed viper units 791. the install process was very detailed and very precise. It was a unit i would never turn down. I love compustar units though. all units are the same IMO, just some have more features and a bigger reputation - eg DEI has lifetime warrenty on the satellite relays and brain, however, it must be installed by certified/authorized dealers.

well, ur car does have domelight supervision, ONLY When the door is open. When u wire up the autopage domelight wire, when u unlock, the dome light can be turned on without opening the door-which is a nice feature for the night time.

i am not sure about jeeps if the key fobs will work when the car has been remote started. Most, not all GM and honda, acura will disable the key fobs when using remote start. not sure what Jeep it is, but most use a transponder system, you will be required to purchase a Key in the Box bypasskit, or purchase a keyless one from bypasskits.com.
Thanks for the fast reply Tedmond! I called AutoPage and spoke with them. They said that this bypass kit is the one that I need. What do yall think?

If you can't tell, I do not know that much about car security...I know the basics but need a little help. Next is installation. I was tempted to install it myself, but I would rather be safe and not mess anything up! A friend who works at BestBuy and installs auto start systems every day says that he will do it for $50 and a case of beer. He has never installed an AutoPage but does a lot of DEI etc.
So my question is....Is the AutoPage system similar enough to the DEI systems so that he will be able to install it easily?
cant turn down idatalink for sure. they are very trusted and durable from what i see. It also is easier for the installer cuz it uses datalink to the car. It will also keep all factory features which is a nice touch.

an alarm/start is like any other unit. if u can install DEI, u can install any other company with ease, besides cheap china made units with poor instruction or module pinout. You friend at bestbuy should be able to install it properly like any other system with ease.. 50bucks isnt bad, fairly cheap for install.
Allright, I bought the idatalink bypass kit and the Autopage RS-1000 and they are on their way. A friend and I are going to install them in a week or so. I will post pictures and let yall know how it is working. Thanks again for all the help!
