Now, i'm sure you all remember the flame thrower topic posted awhile back. Well, i really, really hate to start another one, but the old one is locked and i'd have to wake it up anyway. So please, don't get too wized at me.
I just have a few simple questions, and I should have my system working properly.
1) I have a properly working spark plug. I've tested it for spark and it works wonderfully. How far up the tailpipe should i mount it?
2) Do i necessarily HAVE to inject any extra fuel into the exhaust? My cat-converter is old, and i'm pretty sure it isn't working properly. I can smell the unburnt fuel in the exhaust, and if you leave your finger in the pipe with the engine running for a couple seconds, your finger will get moist. (NOTE: Since i haven't mounted the plug in the tailpipe yet, this question might be useless as it might work without injecting fuel. I just want to know if it's possible to shoot flames without injecting fuel, running the vehicle rich, etc. Just stock engine with a bad cat-converter and a spark plug in the tailpipe.)
3) I tried setting the plug at the end of the tailpipe and igniting the exhaust, but it didn't work. This doesn't necessarily mean this won't work, right? It just means i need to mount the plug up the pipe a little ways, right?
4) If i do need to inject fuel, do i necessarily need to have a NOS fogger? Could i just drip fuel into the pipe before it gets to the plug? Will it mist into the air enough to make it ignitable? i have an old fuel pump that works.
My system does NOT interrupt the engine ignition at ALL. In fact, it's totally seperate from anything on the vehicle whatsoever. All it does is make the plug spark.
I'm largely a do-it-yourselfer. I'm also a make-it-yourselfer. I haven't spent any money yet, and i don't plan to. Any insight is appreciated.

Fuel injected car? If so you may not have enough fuel coming through the exhaust.

No, it's a 302 small block ford motor, and it is carburated. I believe this to be an ideal setup for a flamethrower system.
I'm nott too worried about this for now, as i eventually plan on redoing the exhaust. (Straight-pipe duals right out the side of the van. That's right, it's a fullsize van. =D)
