Check out this article here.

Bad PR for them needless to say. I think some of the claims are a little exaggerated(e.g. that a wiring harness that's been spliced into is a fire hazard), but it's definitely the best example I've ever seen of how not to do an install. The dealer's quoting the guy $12K(that's not a typo) of damage.

I skimmed through the thread (https://www.8thcivic.com/forums/garage/86748-vtecnicals-circuit-city-road-shop-installation-26.html) and things don't exactly add up.  It will be interesting if a conclustion is ever posted to see what they do.

$12K in damage seems WAY high for anything they could have damaged.  I bet if they took it to a private ship it would be $2-3K (still a lot).

I was chatting with Howie about this..... 12K, easy. 4 sheet metal screws from Honda @ 1.63 ea.  adds up real fast.

And you know what it takes to replace the ENTIRE radio harness, it's what 5 feet long

First REMOVE DASH..... this is a joke. The guy that owns that car.... He best believe in Karmah, cause it's gonna get him.

Book rate on every part will bee added together, reguarless if the piece you needed to remove to got to the one you need to

replace has already been removed..... It's a conspiracy.

this has been being discussed for a while with us(circuit city). Basically its just a story of the dealer taking advantage of the situation. The guy signed off on all the work and knew what was going on. He wanted to use the aftermarket harness but needed to be ordered. Customer didnt' want it to be ordered. so he knew everything that was going on. I guess the radio sat to far back and hit the vent, customer knew that he would be cutting into the vents and was ok with it. Then he goes and sues circuit for a bad install. He won't get anything.

I hate people who do shady stuff like that. Try to say he didn't know what was going on and to be honest it was kinda hard to see what he was pointing out on that crappy home video. I would like to inspect in person to be honest.

ROFL. Ok this was a bad install but nothing we havent seen or repaired before. Now this isnt anything a GOOD installer couldnt repair for about a grand or maybe a little more depending on what plastic he broke.

ALOT of stereo shops cut the harness instead of using a wiring kit ( i use them no matter what cuz i like soldering on the bench) but a fire hazard NO (fuses)

Ive seen the duct tape vents for clearance behind the deck tons of times (done right i figured it as a trick of the trade)

Speakers were just not done right from what he said (couple screws woulda fixed that)

Bottom line the guy knows what he is doing but is just a HACK. I think the dealer is the crooked one

my .02 cents

Two one hundredths of a cent? Your opinion isn't worth much, is it?

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

It might be, but that's not what you wrote. You typed .02 cents, which is two one hundredths of one penny. 1/50 of one cent... FAR LESS than $.02, which is two one hundredths of one greenback dollar... "Two cents". That's all I was saying.
