Sucks, I get up to go to work this morning, and my car won't start. Took us most of the morning to figure out what it was, but I'm pretty sure that my fuel pump is broken. 125 for a new one from RockAuto parts. Now if I can just get someone experienced to help with the install...

It would help us to help you if we knew what kind of a vehicle you have.

Well, I didn't exactly mean you guys, but I guess ya'll could help. It's a 06 Toyota Corolla LE. I've already found the pump, it's beneth the bottom part of the rear seat, there's a plate that unscrews and then the tank is right in front of you. The pump should be getting here either thursday or friday, I ordered it yesterday. I just hope this will make my car start. The night before I discovered that this happened, the power and ground wires pulled out of my cap, because it was not bolted down. Needless to say, my main line fuse is gone, I'll have to order another, and I will never not bolt down a box/cap/amp again. It was a very bad end to a weekend/beginning of a week...

Have you checked the wires going to the pump for voltage.

I was not able to check the voltage because my DMM went all screwy. On my battery, I can only get a reading of 7.5VAC, I can't even get a DC reading. I think that thing is broken too, which sucks because it was working just fine last week. posted_image

$125 poorly spent, my friend.  Unless you mean that the "us" that helped you come to your conclusion included a crackerjack mechanic (with diagnostic tools), don't spend blindly on parts.  Your car is only two or three years old.  Have a good mechanic diagnose the problem and tell you what is wrong.

from what i know of toyota....my experience of removing the back seat only gives you access to the fuel level sender unit. perhaps this has changed on newer vehicles. the tank must be removed for pump replacement. does the car have voltage? rig up a 12v bulb and connect it to the wires going to the pump. It will light if there is a 12v supply. that plug should be around the area you see the access panel.

Well, the new pump will be here tonight, so if it doesn't work, I'm not sure what I'll do. I'll post up and let yall know if it worked.

Did you ever get a volt meter or for that matter a light bulb as suggested above to verify that the pump is getting power.  Since you said there was an incident with the amp power wire, in the area of the pump, I would really hate to see you drop your tank, only to find out that the pump is not the problem.

Did it work?

Ok so.... Took the car to the dealer last week. They call me the next day and say that it was a loose connection, and that it was covered under warranty, i can pick it up that night. After work, go to dealer, they say they can't get the car to start after informing me that it was not covered under warranty and I paid 85 bucks. So they keep checking the car and tell me the next day that it is the fuel pump, and since I am 1700 miles over the powertrain warranty, it'll be about 1000 bucks to fix. So, I had a tow truck sent to the dealer to pick up the car and take it back to my house. When the driver gets there, they refuse to release my car to him, saying that I owe them money. That was a whole 'nother headache in itself. They were supposed to reimburse me for the 85 bucks, and I have the actual toyota part shipping to my house in a few days. I'm replacing the enitre fuel lever sender/filter/pump unit. There was a toyota service bulletin about this problem, affecting 05 and 06 corollas and 06 matrixs with a 1zz-fe engine. So if anyone else has that vehicle, look out for this problem. 638 bucks for the new unit, and I still have to deal with the dealer to get my money back from them...

Got new fuel pump in, figured out the ground for it was bad. Ran new ground wire, and everything works great, except for the fact that I can't use my old amp grounding spot anymore, for some reason, when there is something grounded there, the car will not start. Does that sound wierd to anyone?

That does sound weird but glad to see you all fixed up. So, bottom line is that the pump was not at fault in the first place? If the car still won't start with something grounded to that spot. Also did the access panel provide access to the pump? Is the grounding point you mention a direct part of the vehicle body. If so then there is another problem, more than likely a + short to this vacinity. my $0.02

That's what I think happened. Nothing can be grounded there, it makes the car not start. On another completely ridiculous note, the damn thing won't start again. The fuel pump is working, believe me, I got sprayed with fuel. I was messing around under the hood, opened up the oil filler cap, looked inside, and I can see a huge gash in the metal on the inside, in the valve cover. I'm about done with this two year old Toyota.
