I have no sympathy for you and your short term plans. You milked an industry dry when it was thriving and were unprepared when it took a nosedive. I feel for all of your employees but in the larger picture, you got exactly what your shortsightedness and greed deserved. Thank you for the great idea of "free install", your pal, Bob

I used to work at CC and I can't tell you the number of times why a "free install" turned into $65 of added parts on a $100 radio at the cheapest.

I can't say I feel sorry for them either. They just never seemed to even try and change things up or put up enough effort to compete.

wow circuit city has closed down thats weird cause im sittin in a CC install shop right now and im still getting a check. And the free part of the installation is the labor not the parts wich is clearly stated in any add. now that im done venting. Yes circuit city did close 155 stores (world wide) not all of them they only closed the stores that didnt make any money. They also did file chapter 11 bankrupcy wich means that they get one big loan to help with everyday expences while they pay off their debt. So RIP to 155 circuit city stores and no more  and thats about 465 installers asuming that all those stores employed 3 installers. And if you know something that i dont know let me know cause i might need to be looking for a job

K-Mart pulled themself out of Chapter 11, but it is a rare occurrence, so RIP Circuit City.  Maybe not today, but give them a minute.

I hope they can stick it out for the good of the electronics market.

I don't think I will ever be able to embrace WalMart as a worthwhile electronics retailer.  Without Circuit City that pretty much leaves Best Buy in my area.

The Roadshop(or formerly roadshop) is such a small part of the day to day operations of the company that they've pretty much forgotten that there is an install bay at the back of almost every store.  You're right, the reason for the financial troubles is wiz-poor management from the top down.  And Circuit City's mobile department has done nothing but flounder since they decided that there wasn't a need for product specialists that focus only on mobile electronics.  The kids that they have selling in most of the locations have absolutely no experience selling car electronics, they just float back there from cameras or video games, or whatever.

So the roadshop at Circuit has been in dire straits for a few years now, trouble getting the right product, trouble getting the right people(no self respecting salesman will work for $8.50/hr).  But the point is that even if the roadshop was still a huge profit monster the way it was 4-5 years ago, the company as a whole is in trouble because the problems are being played out in every side of the business.  Mobile electronics only accounts for about 5-8% of the revenue, which I guess is the main reason they shifted the focus away from getting well trained installers and sales people.   That sort of stuff costs $$.

I don't see it turning around, unless they close the majority of their stores and focus on a smaller section of the country and rehire and train people who know how to provide customer service and care to do it.  Wal-mart already has the lock on the "grab n go" electronics.  I expect someone at Circuit city to know more than me about most products; which right now, in many instances, is not the case.  Circuit City cannot survive modeling it's business after anyone, Best Buy, Walmart, etc.  That was the point where the company started it's nosedive, when they decided to try to be a Best Buy clone.

Life moves pretty fast; if you don't stop and look around once in a while; you could miss it.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying about the Roadshop being forgotten. I didn't really understand it that much because, atleast in the store I worked at, we made most of the overall profit at our store. We were typically the best department each day so I thought that CC would want to capitalize on that.

I also agree with what you said about being a BB clone. They just never seemed to find a niche in the marketplace, which I was always thinking they needed to do. For a short while, when I was working there, they tried to become a "customer service" retailer. All their focus was on having the best customer service available. This didn't work as most people think BB has better customer service.

Dude, if you have not started to look for work somewhere else, do it like yesterday. CC is done. The smart CC guys who are "in tune" with the  industry have already made their move.

Told ya. Wurtz "We focused on short term profits rather then long term goals". Ya think? Sorry for employees. Glad the company got what it deserved.
