Just for the h3ll of it, what kind of things do you guys do when you get new gear?
I'll start it out.
When I get a new(ish) amp, i'll hook it up to a battery in my junk room and make sure it powers on. Then i'll give it a signal via LOC from mini stereo system. Then i'll hook a speaker up to it, 1 channel at a time, and go from 0-full volume a couple times to make sure it plays cleanly.
Another thing I always do is make sure it has good fuses in it. I don't mean fuses than aren't blown, I mean i'll make sure it has got ATC or Buss brand fuses in it. -I hate cheapo fuses... lol.
When I get new speakers/subs. I'll hook them up to about twice the power they are rated for, just to make sure they play cleanly with no noise.

I plug that 5h17 into the WALL!!! If it survives at all, or at least lives longer than the circuit breaker stays closed, it's good enough to install! LOL

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
I guess that's one way to tell, lol!

I don't really do anything because I don't buy used gear and I always buy new gear from reputable shops. If it doesn't work after i install it I exchange it but very rarely is that a problem.
