I'm trying to figure out the best way to wire a garage door opener remote into my 92 Integra so that I can just flash my highbeams to activate the door opener. I have seen kits for like 100 dollars but I don't need all the included stuff.  Thanks for any help

Take apart your opener and find the switch that you push to activate the opener. It should have two wires going to it, or have to spots on the circuit board for it.

You will have to solder a length of wire to each of these wires or spots.

Now, use a standard relay and wire as follows:

85 - ground
86 - Tap into the high beam wire and run it to here
30 - one of the leads from the opener
87 - to the other lead from the opener

The only problem with this setup is that whenever you have your high beams on it will energine the opener. With a schematic, you may be able to tap into the "flash to pass" circuit, which is different than the high beam alone circuit on some cars.

Mabye some one else could add to this...

Thanks. that should help. I don't really use my highbeams much. So it should be no problem. What would I use to reduce power to the opener if it isn't a 12volt opener? I'm pretty handy at doing electronics but I don't know what every component does.

Thanks for the help

Ok, the switched portion running through the relay needs no modification. All a simple relay is, is a Electriclly operated switch. the 12 volts and ground that you are running to it only activates the switch. Then the terminals 30 to 87 will now have continuity.

As for power to the opener, I would use the battery in it. If you don't want to use the battery in it, go to Radio shack and get a convertor. They are set up to go into the Cig lighter, but you can hard wire it.
