toyota sticking throttle pedal

I just want all of our members to know what to do if they have this problem with a Toyota, or any other vehicle.

PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL. 

Except for certain Fords LOL!

And be familiar with the vehicles controls.

I rented a Prius the other day and the shifter and igniton are both "non standard".  To shift the car in to N you actually have to slide the shifter to the N position and then hold it for a few seconds.  That may sound trivial, but at 100+mph it may not be that easy to figure out!

Is neutral the one just before slow?

I just heard of another 911 call and a trooper shadowed the car til it stopped...Told them to use emergency brake and standard pedal brake til the car got to 50mph...Then they were able to shut-off the car and directed it to an incline/hill...So is anyone aware of NOT being able to put the car in nuetral...Can it be done ONLY at certain speeds...I saw a professor that said he found the problem,but another said he just re-wired the pedal(although the ney professor does get money from toyota,while the other was "independent"...)

I just heard of another 911 call of an accelerating Toyota...Apparently a trooper tailed the car shouting instructions to use the emergency brake as well as the brake pedal,once the car was slowed to 50mph,the driver was able to shut the car off and coasted to an incline...So,can you put these vehicles in neutral at certain speeds or shut them off...I was wondering why it had to slow to 50mph...Any thoughts...A professor said he has found the problem with the pedal,but another professor said that all he did was re-wire the pedal and was not real-world conditions,that re-wiring  can make anything fail..(although the ney professor does recieve money from toyota,as well as other manufactures...) Another idea was EMF interference...Vehicles that had the rod installed are still complaining of accelerating issues...So much for the floor mats...

I know that the Camry that drove off the cliff a couple months ago, remember the one with the driver and 3 passengers.  The one that called 911 and spent minutes on the phone with the 911 operator, it has a traditional type shifter.  The Prius does have a lever with D N and R, it may be electronically controlled, but none the less should jbe able to shift to the neutral position.  Learn how to put your car in neutral at speed.  Do not become a statistic.

Just to clarify - that's what I thought too.
But in the case of the local Ford, there was nothing that could be done.... This dude had police, engineers etc all assisting him....

I have my arguments against not being able to disable most automatic systems - like wiper, stability and anti-lock-brake controls.   
I thought it was bad enough not having mechanical bypasses for electric windows - I have since experienced being unable to secure a car because its fob mechanism fails.
And those poor people that can't get into their cars because of jamming etc.

But to NOT be able to clutch in, or change gears, or ignition off...!!!
I expected people to die from freezing or dehydration - not to get ploughed off the road!

Can we associate a majority of Prius driver's with individuals whom are not too mechanically inclined? I talked my wife out of a Prius and into a BMW 328 XI. Mainly to get to the snow with the AWD.. I am hesitant to install a audio system in it because of all the electronics that are computer regulated ..I love my Nissan Frontier's "computer" capacity at passenger seat belt detection. Manual EVERYTHING is a pain in the rear, but this just the beginning of computers having issues running the vehicle.
