Hi. If available, I really need a wiring diagram for my 1991 Dodge Daytona. It's been driving me crazy for the past 3 weeks. When driving, it starts to hesitate and surge and then dies out. I brought it in twice to get repaired. It's fine for a week, then it's at it again!! When I'm finally able to get it restarted it, I can make it home if I don't stop! I think I will try to see where I can get on my own. I hate to end up paying a mechanic and find out the car is still broke. Also, I live in the Chicago area if anyone knows of a reputable mechanic who specializes in electric problems from hell. Thanks so much.
Are you sure it's an electrical problem ? Just before it dies out does the lights on the dash flicker ? You can do some easy tests at home to verify if it's your electrical system or not. Test your battery to ensure that it's 12.4 volts without the car running and 14.4 volts while it's running. You will need to check with your mechanic on your alternator and check to see if it's charging your battery. If your electrical systems is perfect, I would look at the fuel filter in the engine and then go to the back in the tank itself and check the filter in there for possible debris that is clogging the fuel flow. Next would be the injectors and the spark plugs. Pour a bottle of 109 Octane or fuel injector cleaner with a fresh tank of premium ( 92 + octane ) gas next time you fill up. Check the plug wires for breaks or loose connections. Here's a wiring diagram for the ignition system :
