As, ridiculous as this may sound, I have a major windshield problem. Basically I cant see out of it. Simple solution would be….clean it? Oh I’ve been there I’ve tried everything. As soon as it gets dark, a film appears on the outside of the glass, after this point the wipers, washer fluid, or anything else wont get rid of it. At points I’ve had to pull off somewhere due to lack of visibility. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this and how to fix the problem. BTW the car is a 00 grand am.  Thanks

Here is an old hotrodders tip, go to the grocery store and buy some "barkeepers friend", it is in a cardboard cylinder just like Commet cleanser. Mix it with water to make a paste and smear it onto your windshield, rub in a circular motion intill the glass is all polished up. Don't panic if it sounds like sand on the glass when you start, trust me it works well and no scratches! Hopefully that will fix you up, if not remember that the air goes through a heater. If your heater core is leaking antifreeze, it will through some nasty onto your windshield. You don't smell a sweet odor do you?

Does it help if you put on the defroster and the air conditioner? I'm not sure how grand ams work, but it took me a while to figure out why my defroster wouldn't defrost the window, until I finally turned on the a/c button, and now it works great. just an idea.
