I have a car that the back seat folds down, i am trying to motorize it by using an actuator. my question is does any one have any ideas on a bracket or track system to make this possible, or any other ideas would be great

Do you have to move a lever to fold them down?  If so, how about attaching an actuator to that, and putting some hood lift struts or something on the seat?  Just an idea.

The easiest way to accompish this task is to mount a long bracket which has a inner track (guide rail) with the amount of travel to accomplish the down position.

Whether you mount the guide rail to the centre of the rear seat bracket, or at the two ends is up to you.

From there, you will attach a metal pin, which slides up and down the inner rail when the linear actuator is commanded to do so.

The pin will be attached to a linear actuator, or ram.

The End

The length of the rail and the actuator is dictated by the amount of travel required to reach the down position.

Or, to the down point you prefer. It is also affected by how close the acutator is mounted to the rear seat backing.

If the acutator / ram is placed almost 90' and against the back of the seat, the seat will not lower. As it will simply be pushing the seat as it extends its rod.

You will have to use either a scissor style bracket mount, or decide to either push / pull the seat in the down position. There are countless ways to do this, but each method depends on the amount of work, and visability of the actuator / ram to the user.

Depending upon how much force the seat requires to move forward. You could very well implement something very simple which my friend and I did in his vehicle.

We simply used a standard door pooper soleniod, and affixed it to the position which would allow the most direct contact to the seat backing.

Once the appropiate button on the remote was depressed, the popper would push the seat forward. The sudden quick force was enough to push the seat forward, and gravity simply took over from there.

Simple, and effective. Not as classy as linear actuator in travel. But it did serve the desired function and task at hand. Which was to lower the seat backing.
