Is anyone else extremely disappointed with this show? When they first started advertising it a few months ago, I was very excited. I thought they were going to show some of the cool things that premier customizing shops do. I thought it could give me some new ideas.

Instead, it's a show about the boring people that work there, and the relationship between the owner and head technician is a sorry attempt at recreating American Chopper's relationship between Junior & Senior.

I think that show sucks, it is the worst custom show I have seen, American Chopper is awesome on the other hand.

I know reme and willy i used to work right next to them when they had their old shop in nassau on long island and i just wish they would show more about the cars then about them. i think that they should show some of it is really done on these cars. and show less on who owns it.

Before they had the show I cranked called them from the high end shop I was working at. It was a good laugh for everyone. I was like "you guys on the east coast call a metra kit custom" lol and he was all mad.

But all and all if you've never been there. Working at a high end shop where you have days and weeks to work on a car can be wayyyy boring. You come up with a cool idea and spend hours and hours and hours sanding. Not much material for a tv show.

You all are hitting the nail on the head. This show is destined for doom.

AZN, I know they spend a lot of time sanding, and can be boring. The great thing about TV is you have people who are paid to edit footage. The problem with UW is that they edited out almost all of the shop work and just put in Will yelling at people and famous people spending their money. The show would probably do well on VH1.

I think the show will do just fine. Most people don't really care about the work involved or how to do it. They wanna see the rich folks and their toys. Those of us who actually do this stuff, are of course not impressed. But the show is not for us. Its for your everyday Joe who neither knows or cares how to do it but thinks its cool.

depends on the person i guess...i dont have any freinds that would appreciate a show like this...i mean, Pimp My Ride isnt considered that great because they dont go in depth like Overhaulin does although Pimp My Ride u can at least still get some ideas off of.  I absolutely hate shows about people and especially the rich ones that cant even 'tie their shoe laces' cause they been paying people to do it all their lives.  The show might do alright, theres enough people that will just watch anything, and its a bit better than alot of the shows out there.

haha the worst shows are those tuner shows! I HATE those twins with their Broklyn accents.

But I think the good parts of Unique is that they show real business

But the sucky part is like someone said; too much talking and not showing the details of HOW things are done. I mean after watching American Chopper I can probably go build a bike now ya know?

But the thing that cracks me up is the "Custom" installs. Custom isn't custom without fiberglass and bondo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw an episode where they made a box, put the amp on top, then made a cover. Custom *shhhh* I did stuff like that for Circuit City.

Will if your reading GET SOME BONDO!!! Learn from us on the west side! LOL

They do good work at that shop. The show however, wasn't what I would like to see. I mean it's cool to see all the customs and all, but they should show more of the install not all the BS that they do around the shop. They should have more of a Bob Vila type show, where they show people whats really going on.  How to build boxes and istall amps stuff like that. A little BS on the side is still ok. They should just show more cars and systems than people.

Unfortunately the install itself doesn't make good tv for most people. They show a lot of finished product & celebrities for a reason. Throw in some drama to give it a feel of a reality show, and you have a hit. Also if the turn around time on most of their work is really as short as they say, then you can't expect them to be doing crazy fiberglass installs all the time. I respect anyone that deals with Will for more than a day.. They've only shown what 4 episodes so far and already have reruns.. That sucks..

Hey I just got this idea. They should have a show on the fishman. Or they should do a show on demo cars that take months to build. That would be interesting. How would you have liked to watch the Alpine cars being buit? I'd love to see that.

Someone else had that idea already, because I watched a show - I think on the Discovery Channel - on Alpine's BMW X3 build-up. It may have been an episode of "Rides" on TLC. Anyone else catch that? Now that was good TV.

Does anyone know what song was playing when they were testing their "loudest system ever"?

I think American Chopper is still the best show.   The rest is just filler. Sad part about it is that I watch them when ever they are on.

If they made a car audio show just like "Trucks", "Horsepower TV" and such like that it would be a pretty big hit with the car guys on weekends.  When Spike TV airs its power block, no matter what i have to do on weekends, i still just i sit my ass down and watch, no matter what they do, if its about vehicles, im there.

Pimp my Ride is over rated, I wonder who pays for all the stuff that are put into these cars. Alot of the owners don't have the money to transform there cars. Alot of cash are put into each car. (New Pant, Sounds, Rims Tires) etc........

Just a question for you shop people. What do you guys think of the install quality on this show? Myself, I'm not really impressed. It is REALLY great for business if your an Alpine and JL dealer but I think the stereo installs are pretty average. What do you guys think?

I think they are more oriented towards the whole vehicle make-over such as rims, interior, paint, suicide doors and such.  I compare them more to like West Coast Customs.  From what I have seen of the show, they have not shown their full capacity as A/V installers.  I have seen some of their work in magazines and the final product has been pretty impressive.  It doesn't really show how clean they are with the wiring and mounting or other behind the scenes stuff.  I would say their reputation is based more o the overall vehicle and the celebrity clientele, which is why they  have their show.  And remember it is on SPEED network not primetime.

i first saw an add for unique whips in a copy of Maxim. i thought it would be a pretty cool show. i was thinkin that the shop might be more high end than the west coat customs shop on pimp my ride. i started watchin UW and it was interesting for like 5 minutes. don't get me wrong, i love seein the designs. but i am more interested in how to build and install the stuff. i am not a shop owner nor a professional installer. i do head units for my friends and family and a few subs here and there as well as speakers. that's why i like american chopper, they show everything, even the stupid little arguments between Sr and Jr.

to me, the show is like alcohol, you can only take so much, then you get sick of it. fortunately for me i can take more alcohol that Unique Whips posted_image

i was really excited to see that show when it first came on, and then with in 30 minutes I was fed up.  Is it me or do they seem to go out of their way to make themselves look stupid.  They showed a time lapse when they were hooking up a rear view camera in a hummer for over an hour of 3 guys workign on it, and they waited on a part and one guy just laid under the car the whole time.  Then it didnt work and it was cuz they didnt ground it.  they told some kid in a 350z that if he wanted 3 10's instead of 2 that they would ahve to run 2 amps and that would raise his price up over a grand (might have been 800 bux but still)  to me, and i might be biased, the show made me laugh at how a place that does nothing can make money...

painted rims, 2 12's in a huge mdf box, amp on top, and a screen that drops down from the roof....???? that is not custom.  that is not unique.  Id rather watch american choppers...  however...

American choppers is about the 2nd worst thing on there too..  I dont care to watch the 2 of them fight, or listen to them whine about stuff..  I dont care to see a shop send all of its parts out and buy the other parts prebuilt.  prebuilt frame, prebuilt gas tanks, pre built fenders, mabey a set of custom rims (that they didnt make) an engine (that they didnt build) and a paint job (that they didnt paint)  what are they besides a great out sourceing company. Yes some of the bikes are neat... but still...

And I personally hate when any company/magazine/tv show tried to make something sound way to cool... 'so we decided to go with this new technology that our supplier let us in on, and we think these <insert neon, air ride, led's tires> are really gonna be the wave of the future and really set this 'bike car van etc" off from all the others.  like reading a truck magazine and reading the description on the set of wheels. "bob finally set enough money back to go to a shop 500 miles away to get a custom set of eye popping 17's that protruded just enough from his hand painted fender wells to really give his truck that agressive stance.  Each one is hand wrapped in the finest rubber that money can buy with a low profile tire that just begs to be driven on."   thats an example of the kinda crap they say to just say " he got some cragar 17" wheels with the wrong offset and some Kumoh water tread wheels"

ok, enough from me, I would personally watch Overhaul, or monster garage.  Overhal for the actual time frame, and amount of work done, and monster garage just for the balls to do that kinda crap.  (and even over haul installs some crap stereos and none of the cars are really that fast...  so i guess i am just not easily satisfied...)
