I'm in the process of building a carputer and have a few questions I need to find answers to. I know about MP3Car.com but the problem with that website is that most of those guys are just plain a$$holes. If you ask a question, they come back flaming on you and tell you to "search for the answer". Then you do a search and find only other posts where someone asked a question and got flamed on and told to do a search. 75% of the website is a bunch of jerks telling everyone to do a search. Does anyone know of any other websites? I really just need to figure out how I wanna go with power.

Well i searched to and never even asked them any questions as I see how they react to other people. Seems like most of the questions were asked 3 years ago and ever since they have just told people to search. Its hard to sort through all that crap.

Well, I'm just wanting to know more about the Inverter vs. Opus argument other than "inverters suck get an Opus" I've used inverters for things other than computers and never had any problems. I also need 200+ watts so I don't think the Opus is gonna be my solution. The effeciancy isn't an issue because I have a huge alternator. Is there any other issue with using an inverter with a CarPC Pro?

Check it out.You need to look closely at the voltage regulation. If your running sensitive equipment you want tight regulation on your output voltage so you don't fry anything because the output voltage gets too high (or too low) during alternator transients.
Looking at the
opus you have a 2% variation in voltage regulation.
Im not sure what inverter your looking at but you should have a look at the output voltage regulation specs to ensure the voltage will remain steady. If you can find one that has tight regulation I don't see any problem going with an inverter rather than the opus.

Nice site, I just wish it had more of a "how to" aspect to it. Like a basic walkthrough on how to build, specific basic parts list, etc... for the computer semi impaired.

I don't think one sticky would do it. But, I've run into kid's toys that are harder to assemble than a computer is nowadays. I've already gotten and ordered a bunch of parts. Bout the only things I need now, are the inverter and shutdown controller. I also have to track down a dash piece for my Jeep as I don't wanna hack up the original.
