Beware to all those with paypal accounts. There is a FAKE verification letter going around that states you must re-register your bank account info in order not to lose your account. The letter is very real looking but the addres is fake. I recieved one today. My girlfriend and a few of my friends have been fooled by this and lost a considerable amount of money due to filling out the fake form.

Paypal said that the only time that info should be given is during a transaction. They are not proactive in updating their databases.

This is very true; the best practice to avoid being taken by this kind of thing is to NEVER, NEVER click on a link in an email, even if it says it's going to the paypal website; it's usually a redirect to a dummy site. Authentic letters from paypal or ebay will never direct you to click on a link within the email. They will tell you to go to your browser and type in paypal.com or ebay.com or whatever. If you're a frequent ebayer the ebay toolbar would be a good idea, it has the account guard feature that will let you know whether the site you are on is an authentic ebay or paypal site. You can also forward these suspicious emails to spoof@ebay.com and they will let you know whether or not the email is authentic.

If you read some of the things on Paypal. It clearly states to never respond with any of those emails.

I think I received a fake e-bay messege last week that looked very convincing. I checked the address bar and it had nothing to do with e-bay.

I recently started getting these very often.

My cousin just got a great job for a rather large Bank. He is hunting these guys down and having the websites shutdown after hacking them to find out who owns it. It sound very fun.
