I need some opinions. My son will be 5 Friday and he wants a video game. What is the best system for his age? Things like variety of games for his age, ease of using controls, how well will it hold up? I know nothing about these type of games.

I'm leaning that way too. They make more games for his age group.

I'm not what you would call a gamer, but I do play a few games and PS2 is what I like. Football and Nascar games are my faverite.

Gamecube is marketed towards children; PS2 is marketed mainly towards 13-18 year olds; XBOX is marketed mainly towards 16-21 year olds. They all have a majority of their games in their respective age ranges.

Take him to a themepark, to the beach, to a zoo spend a little father son time with him...

At 5 he shouldn't have a PS2 or Xbox!

Sure his hand eye cordination will be great! But by the time hes at high school he'll be into Guns, Drugs, Theft & Pimping!
He has been to theme parks every year since he was 1 year old. He goes to the beach 3 or 4 times a year. He also goes to the zoo a couple of times a year. And I'm always there with him. I spend more time with him than most people do with their child. I'm not talking about getting Grand Theft Auto and games of that type. Children are only what you make them.

Yea cuz we all know videogames casue children to become violent criminals and drug addicts
I would suggest getting him a old school system. If you can find a old SNES i think that would be great. A used playstation or N64 would be good. Older games were simpler, and often times more challenging. I have fond memories of playing Super Marion World, Mario Kart and all the Donkey Kong Kountry games when I was younger.
My first system was a SNES, then I graduated to a PS1, then a PS2. But about a year ago my PS2 broke broke and just recently I bought my friends old PS1 and im havin some fun with it.
