I got to ask what is the worst install you ever saw??? When it comes to alarms. I just got finish removing a alarm today from a car I just bought I belived it’s a BW 3000 all I got to says is damn they used 14Ga.clear speaker wire connected to the starter wire. Then they used the18Ga. RED / black red speaker wires you get with speakers for grounds, door locks and power. What a hack job they used solder and t taps and some black tape. Does anybody know who make BW 3000? Sorry about the first post.

the worst install was the dumba** who mounted a amp that I sold him on the firewall in the engine compartment. He came back and it was dripping with blowby oil. he wanted me to replace it he said it was a bad amp. I told him to forget it. the thing was so nasty.

!!!!! You actually had a customer mount a amp in the engine compartment. 6 months or so ago there was someone who posted on sounddomain that hes was going to do that ( i think it was in a dodge ram) the responses to his post were humorous to say the least! His reasoning for putting the amp there was that this way he didnt have to run power wire through the firewall. But he would still need to run the rcas and speaker wire through the firewall, which I imagine would more of a pain in the a** than power wire.

ha. a year ago this this guy had some ol ass beat up for escort in our shop wanting a deck installed. we starteda check when he mentioned that he had "boost" hooked up in his trunk and that he wanted to work with the deck were were installing. now let me tell you i work Pittsburg cali so we get all types of super ghettofied situations we have to work with but damn this guy had some old as fisher 15' sub in a home theater box with two what looked like millitary jubo, bearly fit in trunk sized horns painted dark green.not only that but he had two old ass lanzar amps just tangled in what looked like jumper cable wire for power and ground. We said uhh... this too much liability and we won't do it so he got pissed and said fine just do the deck. i kinda wish we tried hooking up to see how it woulda sounded hm....

My personal car I admit is pretty horrible lol

I always work on everyone else's car and make it all nice and custom but on my own car... I think I have bare wire just twisted together somewhere in there.

Worst one i ever saw was probally the an amp install where the guy connected his power wire, closed the hood and ran the wire over the hood.  Then im guessing he just opened the drivers side door threw the cable in and ran it across the carpet to the amp in the back.  I think it was in a ply voyager van.  It was nice wish i had my camera that day.

well i here all that but let me tell ya about the s*** i use to do before i got my licence and own car and before i became a true professional installer.

because i didnt have my own car i had to make a quick in and out install so i use to use a realistic tape deck walkman with stereo head phone jack to rca,15 foot power cable to battery couple foot ground widged in the trunk latch amp mounted to the box of 12" subs firing in for what reason i really dont know and i'd through it in wires all over the place and bang around for the afternoon & night then take it out when i left. i guess you can say i've had the bass jones for a long time. and didn't care how it looked and really sounded for that fact as long as it had bass or what i thought was bass at that time.

wow looking back at that makes me laugh. oh well we all start some where.

My buddy does some of the ugliest installs I've ever seen...he gets things to work, but the installs look hideous. I'll give as an example his '98 Maxima that he has, which he bought when I was away for several months and decided to install several components from previous cars without any help. When I first saw it this car had:

Factory Bose system, unmolested

Parallel audio system, starting with a head unit mounted in a pocket below the factory radio.
2 4s mounted behind the center console
2 6x9s in the trunk pass through behind the rear armrest.
4 channel amp(apparently the H.U. couldn't make those speakers sound good), sub amp, and sound processor mounted on a board bolted to the backseat with wires going every which way.
Sub box in front of that, which he covered in household carpet, adding about an inch to its height and making it impossible to mount anything on top, which made that amp rack necessary in the first place.
4 gauge power wire running from the battery through a bare metal hole in the firewall, with no fuse before the trunk.

Yeah that's what I said when I saw it...the first thing I did to unf*** his mess was get a fuse and a grommet on that dang power wire.

My brother-in-law once hooked up an amp in his "hooptie" with the power wire going from the battery running towards the windshield from under the hood, then somehow had it alongside the windshield and into the interior through the door. Yes, the door was actually closed on the wire. I told him several times about the dangers of this, but you would have to know him to understand him. Being the know-it-all that he is, it ended up catching on fire with him. Some people just can't be told right from wrong.

i had a customer who had an amp installed at another store. the installer made his(or her) ground under the rear seat, and wouldn't you know it, they drilled into the tank. i guess it wouldn't have been so bad, except that the ground was loose and arcing, and you could smell gas while you watched the sparks jump from ring to car.

Why does the Ghetto FAQ say you're ghetto if "you believe the Magic 3 upgrade BS" ? Does that refer to the "Big 3" upgrade everyone talks about? I couldn't find a link to ask them any questions.

Um the install i just did, i'm not proud of it.
I didn't even want to do it, but after being nagged for over a week i just did it.

I was MADE to cut the factory harness out because she didn't want to spend the money to buy an adaptor. Spend 300$ on a hu but can't cough up the 10$ for a harness?

It don't look to bad, i soldered and shrink wraped everything. i just dont like cutting the factory harness up for no reason other then your to cheap.

Heh.... yeah, hopefully the Directed calender next year looks as good.

That alarm came from a large shop that starts in "A".... cust. even had the reciept as proof.

Here's a couple more winners from last week:

Apparenty electrical tape is rather expensive in SK. I will give them credit for using 3 different sizes and colors of Marrettes :-) Gotta fit the wire sizes, y'know. We see a lot of this type of thing from dealer tradeins (excellent relationship with 4 dealers here.... we do at least one car a day for at least one of them)

Stuff like this is pretty much par for the course for some "shops" in this area, and there are a lot of DIY'ers in this area that end up bringing their cars in when they finally give up. Kind of a job security thing.....
