a buddy of mine that is an installer told me about this but not sure if it's something you buy or make:

basically it is a "phase checker" for a lack of a better name thats what i'll call it, it is supposed to tell you if a speaker is playing in phase or our by lighting a led one colour and another if it's out of phase...apperently you hold it to the speaker your testing and it does what i just described.............is there such a thing and if so how do you make it or where do you buy it?

I have a Pro model made by Turbosound for sound reinforcement. It has two pieces. A line level sender and a reciever that has by a line level detector and a microphone. When the signal from the speaker is "in Phase" the detector flashes green. Red when the signal is out of phase. You do get an out-of-phase red flash if you hold it too close to the port on a ported box, as well you should. A great tester to have! This model has been discontinued. I think Parts Express has a Gold Sound version.

the unit you are looking for is a phase detector. unfortunately the company (speak rite) no longer makes them or is no longer in business. but you might find one on ebay now and then @ $100 I think, but one of the best tools you can have. they still make the 2 piece units but I think they cost more. hope this helps
