SQL, drives me friggin nuts. Its a stupid term that is used by kids who love to pound their brains out but dont have a system they feel is good enough to compete with. So when their buddies go "What'd you hit with that" and they reply "Oh I dont compete, its a SQL car" or "its a SQL sub". Bulls**T. I hate the acronym, it has no basis. If you have a sq car, than so be it, if you have a SPL car then so be it, if you dont have either than you have a daily driver that you built for you, so be happy about it. But when I see that term used on "other" boards and these guys talking about how their car is gonna hit 150 dbs and be clear as a bell at the same time, just wizes me off. Ok, Im done now.

if we ignore it instead of correcting those who use it, SQL will not only be a cumputer term, but become a new category for competing. we must rise up against them and overthrow the rebels! lol

By SQL I mean a box that hits a good score but can still sound pretty good. This is what I was told by a kid on another forum. Im thinking a friend told him what SQL meant to him and now he uses it too. What is wrong with kids these days!?!? lol ------------- "People with mullets live 40% longer" - Ricky Bobby

I must admit, I am guilty of such treason, I hope I will not be publicly flogged too much over it.
I have a friend who wants a "clear, extremely deep bass"
I figured I would give him a SoloX10/X12 setup with 2500W RMS. I am taking my time preparing everything to get the best quality, high dB.
But, while explaining it to him, I told him about SQL and SPL.
So, there it is, I came clean. ------------- I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Whenever someone tells you that, ask them to explain it to you. After they get done say it doesn't make any sense ask them to explain it to you again. Repeat. Eventually they will either stop using the term or stop talking to you. Either way it is done with.

Well I was unaware of this being a "Class" of competition, but when did they start it becuase I am betting this term was god awful slang before it became a class.

That was actually a joke, but I have used it when someone gets annoying. It does work.

Of course it was, and I laughed. I am still confused though, because I saw Jeff use it on here, and he is Velocity Motors!.
Proof?

Project details: Customer wants full competition system with all the bells and whistles in his Commander. Show quality and with SPL in mind but also has to be SQ minded. This is what we have so far.....
So, if Jeff used it, I figure it can't be that bad to use still.
Maybe I should PM him and have him explain it to me.
P.S. Don't tell him I snitched, lol. ------------- I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

ok im a newb to audio competition but i know that spl is just how loud your system is *sound pressure level
and sq...well i thought that was sound quality and that some people called it just sq and others called it sql as in sound quality level
im most likely way off but if someone could tell me what this stuff is id be very appreciative

Well, seeing as the post that Jeff wrote about was my customer and I flew him out here for him to meet me in person and work on the project for a week, I know a thing or two about the post. It was written in my living room at oh say, 2:00 am give or take a hour. So he was a little tired perhaps. The customers goals are simple, he wants good tonal response but if tasked, he wants to lay waste to the neighbourhood. His goal is to lay a patch 80 feet long, burning the tires off while trying to blow the seals on the rear side windows. He has the power to do so, 4400w rms of Zapco Competion amp power and the subs to do so, mounted in a 11 cubic foot dual slot port box (80sq." of port face) This thing is going to wail. Personally I hate the term SQL as well. At some point the human threshold of hearing can no longer distinguish good sound from just plain loud or just plain noise. I can see it now. Dude, did you hear how good that F18 sounded, dude 2 says, nope, it was just way too loud, what did you say? ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

Good point. About the 4400W RMS, that is well... insane, I am scared of what 2500W RMS will sound like in my friend's car when I am done with it. Did you guys do anything special like "pressure reinforcement?"
