I'm a 12volt installer and love what i do, but i'd also like to try to get into window tinting..Just curious to see how many of you guys know how to tint..and how long it took you to pick it up..
Windom tinting is an art.....watch the guy on Unique Whips.....NOT AN ARTIST....tinting with the door of the shop open....while the whole crew works around him....I'll bet his work looks like it was tinted in a dust storm....ANYWAYS... go here and do some reading and see if your up too iy? https://tintdude.com/

I have tried it a few times but im far from an expert. Id say if you want to do it then read up about it, maybe buy a how to dvd off ebay, get some cheap tint and practise on your own car. Make sure you do it in a closed dust free enviroment and hang up a punching bag cos you are gona wana hit something the first few times you try. After a while it becomes easier but you will need a lot of practise especially on the rear window. Id say it would take a few months of practise until you are a "good" tinter but thats just my opinion, u might pick it up a lot quicker or slower. Patience is the key to tinting, especially in the beginning.
It is difficult and requires a very, very clean work enviroment. Practice on your friends and family's cars. Plan on throwing away a lot of film and except no flaws. Your biggest challenge will be heat shrinking back windows, it is an art. You will burn film, overshrink etc.....Force yourself to do all back windows in 1 piece no matter how challenging it is its worth it. I am by no means the best, but I have worked with the best and I promise you this if and when you get good you set your price. You can make damn good money if your good and pay attention to details. And imo by what ever tint you plan on using whether its lumar or johnson or whatever, all films are very different and require different techniques. It will take years before you can consider yourself good or a pro, trust me every car has its tricks and its a long process to learn them. I have gotten a few tricks from tintdude.com the site has some good info. you can also look into profesional training from some of the bigger companies if your seriuos about it.
