im looking at picking up a 2003 Ford F150 that was in a flash flood. i havent messed with any that were in a flood before and im pretty weary of it. im just curious if anyone has had the chance to work on a vehicle that has been in a flood or not. i already asked if it was running when it was flooded and i was told no...are there any other questions you guys can think of? and yes i am planning on this being a project, not a quick fix daily driver. any input is welcome.

Depending on how high the water level was will dictate how much can go wrong. Anything electronic that got wet will fail sooner or later. The circuits and components may look OK, but circuit boards will eventually corode if they got wet. If you like to consistently repair things and enjoy troubleshooting then by all means buy the truck. You have heard of the daily driver. Flood vehicles are the daily fixers. The only good things flood vehicles are good for are trim and such that haven't been altered by the water. By the time you have replaced all the parts that will go bad (guaranteed), you could buy a 2007 model brand new.

Sparky is dead on, I have a valued customer that bought a "great deal" 06 silverado that was a flood car. His repair bills are far past 5k already. And I believe the 4 wheel drive is in op now so there goes more $$$.

x2, I agree totally. Especially down here in New Orleans, I've heard of a few people getting stuck with cars flooded during the storm. It isn't fun.

Agreed. It might work for a while but wait till all the gremlins pop up from the corrosion down the road. I'd stay far away for sure.

Most insurance companies won't insure flood cars, and you can't import a car into Canada if it has flood damage notation.

That's right I forgot about that. Here you can only get liability insurance so you're screwed if they rip it off. Something else to worry about.
