Trying to chase down an electric gremlin in a 93 cherokee, inline 6, 5 speed, don't have the owners maunal. There are 5 relays under the hood, aux fan, fuel pump, a/c, auto shutdown, starter. Trying to figure out if they are all the same relay. All are five pole and look the same, Bought a few at a auto parts store, fuel pump, a/c and starter all call for the same parts number, they are a BWD brand and don't have amp marked on them, Parts guy said that the 30 on the one pole means it's 30 amps, is this right? They didn't have any parts number for the aux. fan or auto shutdown. Called Jeep, they we're also no help, pasrts numbers where discontinued and had no amperage rating, the aux fan called for a different part number than the starter. I'm really confused, hope someone can help, is there any way to determine if these 5 pole look alike relays are thesame or different?

all automotive relays look the same. they are rated at 30 or 40 amps.

Hi,

If they are the 5 terminal Bosch type relay, they are interchangeable. None of the circuits you mentioned draw anywhere near 30amps. So a 30/40 amp relay is ok. Now, what is the electrical gremlin you are chasing down?

intermittent no start, getting stranded, may have figured it out though, benched tested starter and solenoid, test good, back on car, it started once then no start, unhooked factory wireing, hot wired starter and control circut, no click on solenoid, replaced solenoid, started once, then no no start again, last resort whacked starter with hammer and can get to start, so starter binding was not allowing solenoid to move, thus there was no click to hear, will replace starter, hope that's the end of it.
